Grounding Kits

Recommended Posts

Would have cost me nearly the same to make my own as buying one (£60). I guess you can make them cheap if you use poor quality cable and connectors but then you aren't going to improve things.

Go to a car audio shop, or Maplins and you can buy the cable and connectors much cheaper than that. Maplins will sell red and black cable and some car audio dealers will sell blue and silver cable. A meter of 4awg (25mm2) cable should only cost about 4-5 quid.

The copper will be very fine stranded (as it's designed for low volt, High current use) and the connectors will have that all important gold plating which should protect against corrosion.

I can get 2085 strand OFC cable for about £4/m and the gold plated ring crimps for 50p each.

Taking a need for 4m (being generous) and 16 crimps totals £24.

Tie wraps and bolts should only be another few quid making a kit price of less than £30 less time and the crimping tool and solder.

I work in the electronics manuf'ing industry, so getting a wee drop of solder isn't a problem. And I'm fairly sure I could borrow a crimping tool.

The 2085 stranded cable comes in silver or blue. I'd happily make up some kits but I'd feel guilty charging £20 for an hours work

£40 for the kit seems like a much more reasonable price to me B)

Only problem is I'd need to get some info on the locations of fitting, or exact lengths of cables required.

I think the HKS one goes back to the Battery. No real reason for this, the electricity flow isn't going to go around in a circle however you want short runs with the least number of connections in between to keep the resistance as low as possible.

My one has a couple of connections off the Battery. They go to earth points within the engine bay and then multiple cables are run from there to various locations (two heads, throttle body, manifold, two front wings).
