Is it ok to put two different brand of tyres on the rear of IS250? for example i got a good deal on a new Bridgestone and got a good deal on a part worn 6mm tred remaining michellin. Is it ok to mix like this? or must i replace both together with same tredwear aswell as same brand?

Buy two of the Bridgestone, part-worn can be false economy as you don't know what damage the have ( kerbed / pothole etc. ) & mixing tread depth and pattern on the same axle is not advised.

If you do go for two bridgestone's let me know if there are more available at a good offer. I need 2 x 255, 40, 18s for the rear. Been looking at dunlop sport maxx as everyone seems to favour, although a lot can depend on price!

I think we all like saving a few bob if we can but surely not by buying secondhand tyres. Nothing personal but if I had to worry about the price of re-shodding the car I would have bought something cheaper to run.

Agree about part worns, simply not worth the risk, but as regards fitting different brands on the same axle, then as long as they are the same size and speed rating, then there is no legal reason not to, wether you would even notice any differance in driving would depend entirely on how you drive the car. My car came from the dealers with a Bridgestone/ Dunlop combination fitted, as it had had one new tyre fitted before sale, makes no differance at all.

Are you sure, what if one tyre performed better than the other in say the wet? It could lead to unexpected behaviour on corners ( LH / RH ).
