sounds like the starter but get the battery checked just incase .also check terminals on battery and starter connection to see if they are loose or dirty. Not sure on fitting or cost but some places will repair them as a cheaper alternative .

I had that problem once.. I took out the battery to do some work around the lights.. I thought I reconnected it ok as it had been o.k for a couple of days.. but I had not tightened the terminal connector tight .. and it worked loose even more..

If it is the starter it sounds like it's just the solenoid sticking. Don't know if you can get that part on it's own. May be possible to take apart and clean.

on my IS recently ive had a battery problem and when the battery is low the starter clicks. put in a new battery last night and now its great

was the battery in my case that was making the starter click

i recently had the same problem. took it to my local auto sparky where he diagnosed that the bushes inside the starter had burnt away.
2 hours later and £60 lighter problem solved
don't bother trying to remove the starter yourself its a 'PIG' !
let somebody else have the hastle

like i said 'GO AND TALK TO AN AUTO SPARKY' !
they will tell you there and then whats up with it. things can be fixed you know.
what do you do if your car won't work do you get it fixed or do you get another ?
I'm pressuming the price to get it fixed is substanionally cheaper than just buying a brand new one.........
just trying to save you some money mate
