How difficult would it be to replace the standard dipping rear view mirror with one of the photochromic versions fitted to some Lexus 200/300 models ?

Is the wiring in place and therefore just a matter of changing the hardware ?

Im not sure if this would work but the new Toyota Prius has an auto dimming mirror as an option. Toyota Prius Options

Thanks :)

Most manufacturers seem to use same wiring loom for all variants of a particular model.

Any lower spec models just have that bit of the loom blanked off if not required.

If this is the case with the IS200 then there maybe a spare wire up near the mirror in case this model is to have a photochromic mirror, which requires power to function.

Using this theory it may be possible to swap mirrors and hey presto.

Anyway, I've got my dealer checking :)

I doubt it has the wire there. but it wouldnt take very much to add one. you could take it from the dome light switch

That's a point :)

I'll see what the dealer comes up with first before I go fiddling.

I asked my dealer if this was possible when I bought mine in April '02 and was told "no".

All I found was THIS but never bought one.

I still miss it from my last car and would still get one if it was reasonable.

Looks good - especially with the Compass & Temp gauges :)

The man from Lexus - he say no :(

The wiring is not there.

I wonder if power could be run from one of the vantiy mirror light(s) to power a Lexus photochromic mirror.

i would assume you would only need 12v so can't see what the problem would be to fit one they will proberly want an arm to supply it though
Kremmen
That's what I thought - it probably could be done with a bit of work.

Perhaps the mirror bracket would need changing and a 12v wire.

:(

Perhaps Chris Shipley could let us know how much it is?

May be even let us know if it's a straight swap?

Please keep us posted - GB potential I think :P
