Boll???s, i've just kerbed the rear alloy - its only four weeks old! Standard IS 200 SE. It has not gouged the alloy much, mainly a scratch and small ding. Can this be repaired, or is it a case of having to replace the alloy?:mad::mad:
Monster-Mat
it should be able to be repaired ,look for a ,alloy wheel repairer.......in the yellow pages etc etc
Steve

Thanks all, i'll look at the YP. I just feel soooo gutted. Thanks again.

Could swap it for the spare ...
JOHNNY-BOY
I used "ChipMaster" to repair my alloy, you can't tell where the damage was now. Their number is - 07812 729986 or 07812 734864. They only charged me £10.00 !!
kamlex
Thanks Johnny Boy, thats great. I'll give them a try.

I don't feel so bad now, I kerbed my alloys the other day after I'd had the IS200SE only 6 weeks! Boy, those tyres are low profile. I reckon it's going to happen quite regularly.

Sorry for the double reply, but just thought, I was going to swap over for the spare. But I'm sure I read something here about the spare only being interchangeable long-term with one of the sets of wheels. Or was I imagining it !
ricky_is200
Funny I remember being really gutted when I first kerbed a wheel, but after a while when you see how pitted they get from no fault of your own you stop caring!
kamlex
Ricky, why have you not had your alloys changed under warranty if they are corroding? I am waitning for mine to start!
Zee007
hhhhhmmmm. Thats a good point. Although mine are still in good condition, they have begun to pit. What did you say to Lexus to get them exchanged Kamlex? Was it challanging?!?!
ricky_is200
I mentioned it to the dealer at the last service and they said they would contact Lexus and get back to me which they never did. That was before I read the posts on here about people getting them replaced, I should get back to them but the dealer is a fair distance away. I have a couple of other problems with the car which despite many trips to the dealer haven't been resolved (jerking when pulling away despite two new clutches and a new flywheel and knocking noise from the brakes), this and having done 55K miles I'm beginning to think its time for a new car so I'm not so fussed about the alloys!
kamlex
Zee007, i have not had mine replaced. The car is only 8 weeks old! I was referring to the many posts on this subject. I get the impression that loads of them have been replaced under warranty!

I took my alloys off when the car was delivered, gave then a good polish with Autoglym, and then a further coat of Autoglym supewr gloss. No problems so far - but hey, who knows!
ricky_is200
I called the dealer, mainly to complain about the jerking at low speeds which is even worse since they changed the clutch, but I mentioned the wheels and he said he would look at them at the same time and gave me the impression he was ordering a new set of alloys. Its booked in for the 8th May.

True - cos the tyres are directional, the standard spare will only go on the nearside.

When i had my first IS I kerbed every alloy within 2 wk's... Doh!! My local dealer called out some guy who came out repaired them (& they really looked liked brand new!) but stung me £35 per wheel!!! I think you can get them done pretty much anywhere so dont stress too much about it:smilegrin: Ive had my second IS about 8 months now & just the other day was thinking 'I havent kerbed these alloys once...great must be getting used to the high kerbs! Guess what?.... The next day my little girl who was sitting in the back decided to throw her anyway up cup at me...knocked me on the back of the head & I steered to the left & smacked my left wheel on the kerb at about 40Mph resulting in an alloy which is badly kerbed all the way round!!!! Who cares going to get some 19" wheels anyway....it's a good exuse for it

Finally got round to getting my car into the dealer on friday. Now have a brand new set of alloys. I am really impressed Lexus replaced them after 30 months, 55000 miles and lots of kerbs.
ricky_is200
Attached is a picture of one of the old alloys they replaced under warranty in case anyone is interested....
jenners
Are your new ones modified in any way from the original ? i.e. will it happen again outside of the warranty period ?.

Good to see they are replacing them - I'm going to enquire about mine since they are just as bad as those in your pic.

Cheers.
ricky_is200
They look perfect as they are new. Whether the lacquer/finish will last longer this time I guess I'll have to wait and see!
Zee007
Three of my Alloys are fine - but one looks as bad as your pic Richard. I may have a word with them actually...
ricky_is200
I'd try telling them your alloys are pitted and you understand you can get them replaced under warranty, then just point out the one to them. I only showed them the worst and they didn't look at any of the others. I think they get so many now they don't question it.
Zee007
Thanks Rich - I'll have a go on Thursday... ;)
