Please help!
I am considering purchasing a GS300 SE and would wish to tow a caravan (kerb weight 1200kg) occasionally and for short distances only within the UK (80 miles) but I am recieving conflicting advice as to whether or not a gearbox oil cooler system is required as essential.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance that is offered, thanks.

Depends on how many times you tow and what the distance covered is,but as a rule if i was towing then a oil cooler would help in any case.

Many thanks Scorpio but I am still faced with the same question regarding whether or not the oil cooler is essential. As I said earlier, I have had conflicting advice with no definitive answer!

Thanks again tho'

i would weigh up the costs of having a cooler fitted against the cost of a new gearbox wink.gif

my father had experience of towing a caravan with a vauxhall omega
without cooler !
to cut a long story short :
1st gearbox vauxhall paid for
2nd gearbox NOT
at £5000 + there not cheap
and he only did about 3000 miles of towing per year
got rid of it after 2 years cry.gif

now has a merc ml
with cooler
no probs whatsoever
in two years
mudzs
owners manual states "when towing a trailer have a towing kit including oil cooler reinforcements, etc installed ".would have thought this depends on size of trailer ,caravan etc
