I am (almost) about to purchase a 2004 registered IS200 Manual Limited Edition.

I would replace the standard exhaust back box with a custom one, which would be built by a friend of mine for the car. Also possibly fit lowering springs to beef up the handling (Lexus ones if available).

How do the dealers view modifications to the car and what is the warranty situation with this?

I may be wong but I think you could only fit Lexus/Toyota approved parts. For the springs you could use the TTE ones which are just rebadged Eibachs (30mm drop). For the back box again I think you would have to fit something like the TTE backbox which is a rebadged Remus.

TRD may also do springs and a back box for the IS200.

As far as I'm aware, all TTE and TRD parts can be fitted to the IS and keep the warranty intact.

Hi Brian

There is a Lexus lowering kit for the IS200. It lowers the car by 30mm and ‘offers a firmer ride’.

The springs are £195.95, Labour to fit them would be £164.38 and I would recommend a four wheel alignment, which would be £82.19. The total cost including VAT would be £442.52 but we could reduce that to £398.27 if you are a gold member.

On the back box; just keep the original one for trade in time, the warranty will only be effected if any parts you fit impact on the failure of another part.
