I have a 2000 GS 300 with a clinking brake problem. When you brake in reverse and then brake going forward, the front brakes clunk loudly. It only happens after you apply brakes in reverse. Dealer says this is a common problem that is due to the ABS system. Since this noise only started a while ago, it seems that there is a fix ?

Sorry about the post. I just found that a Lexus Tech service bulletin was issued regarding this problem. It recommends to add caliper grease to fix the noise.

Aha! That's nice to know. Mine does it, I thought it might be something nasty and expensive lurking somewhere in the suspension system. If it's only the pads shifting, I'm happy.

I had this problem after the idiots at Kwikfit replaced all pads and discs on the front wheels (no doubt cheap parts). Car had no problems before going into Kwikfit, except for brakes wearing low. When ever I turn and braked at the same time I would hear a clunking noise. If I didn't use the brakes while turning, no noise. Decided to replace all pads and discs (all 4 wheels) and so far no clunking noise (I used EBC stuff). I have a GS300, year 2000.
