First post on here so be gentle please!

I'm looking at bringing in an Altezza RS200Zltd but due to changes in the import laws it looks like there is only a model report for the tiptronic versions of the car.
Just wondering if anyone has any experiences of this system, whether it has any reliabilty issues or if its basically any good for day to day driving. :driving: Seems like a great toy when you look at it from the "playstation" point of view, but have never owned an auto before so any info would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Dougie

It is very good mate... none of the waiting after you press the buttons, the gear change is instant.

not got any reliability issues as far as i am aware...

The model report for the manual altezza is still in progress, but won`t be long now...
ScoobySti
Thanks Scott,

Do you think it is worth waiting for the model reprt for the manual? How long do you expect it to take? Will prob be about jan/feb time before the car i choose will be here anyway, so I'm wondering if it is worth just going for a manual, bit of a risk tho' I suppose.

You seem to know ur stuff bud, so I'll pik ur brains on somethin else if thats ok? ;)

Got a quote from Tesco online for circa £500, but it only lists IS200 import (chennile), so I phoned them up and explained it was a tezza RS, she talked to her supervisor who said that as far as they were concerned it is the same car and the quote would be ok, does this sound right to you?

Cheers

You want the insurance certificate to state it's an Altezza RS otherwise you are leaving yourself open for trouble if you need to claim. They may list it under Toyota not Lexus.

Words of wisdom from Colin there.... My insurance company through A_plan had to refer me me to their specialist Branch in Thatcham because the Altezza RS is not the same as the Lexus IS200 or IS300. Both the IS200 and IS300 were drived from the Altezza and can be considered to be a de-tuned version of the Altezza. My insurance quote was £100 more than what the IS200 would cost me, so listen to Colin and get a quote for ALTEZZA
AltezzaScott
can`t say anymore really.... yes it WILL come under Toyota Altezza
ScoobySti
Cheers lads,

tried Adrian Flux and they quoted me 620 fully comp. As for the Tesco thing the Altezza does not come up on their website so thats why I chose the Lexus import then followed it up with the phone call. Agree with you all it sounds a bit iffy and would deffo make sure it was Rs200Zltd on the docs.

Any others with negative or positive feedback about the tiptronic box?

Cheers

The IS200 chenille is an import from Ireland. Basically the same as a UK car. The Altezza RS has different engine, 50 odd bhp more etc. Do not insure this as a chenille.
AltezzaScott
try Osborne & Sons, and tell them Scott from Altezza Sports and prestige told you to ring...

They are more often the best...
ScoobySti
Will do Scott thanks.

DEFINITELY wait................

I had an FTO before my altezza and as I was impatiant and couldn't find the right car I went for the FTO tip.......... I even test drove it!

Must say I did enjoy owning one and swore to myself that I would never get another tip :)

Having found my perfect altezza (manual) I love it and all I say is be patiant! Best things come to those who wait (blah blah)

Since you are coming from a scoob sti, performance isn't in the same league and definitely think manual would be the best. test drive both and see for yourself

With Adrian flux (NIG) £620 with all mods declared! :):)

good luck
ScoobySti
AAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!

Just what I didnt want... a conflicting review :winky: Think I need to test drive both before I make up my mind. Getting impatient like u say Oli.

Have u driven the tip Altezza? Was there anything that annoyed you in particular about the fto's box or was it just general driving?

Not really bothered about the drop in performance to be honest pretty much accepted it, but wont miss the horrendous fuel bill every month either.

Thats the same as I was quoted by Adrian Flux as well!

Dougie,

I have a tiptronic RS200 and I can tell you that it's absolutely brilliant. The gear response is instant and once you get used to it you can shift around gears much quicker and easier than a manual.

On the subject of insurance my car is insured through Tesco, and they definately list the car, but it's under Toyota, not Lexus. They're dead cheap.

hmm - someone advocating insuring their car with Tesco.

Best share the story of how Tesco ****** me around for 3 months trying to put £12,000 worth of repairs on my 7 weeks old car - tesco claim handling

Once again Thanks for the replies chaps. Got a good quote from Osbourne (Cheers Scott) £560 fully comp.

Need to get me finger out and put the scoob up for sale. :crybaby: Once I am a bit nearer to buying I might give u a bell Scott, just to chew the fat a bit about whats available for what costs etc.

Cheers
