Had my IS200SE for nearly 6 months now, and absolutely love it. I try my best to keep it looking shiny like new but I must say the biggest pain is the quick accumulation of brake dust - mainly on the front wheels. Basically, after cleaning the car, it only takes an hour or so's driving before the front wheels start to look quite grubby again with brake dust, while rest of car still looks great. Outwith the normal full washing of my car, I find easiest way to remove it is actually just to take a dry duster to it, but I must admit I'm fed up of constantly having to clean of the brake dust. I know this may sound petty, but to me it really does make a big visual difference to whether the car looks clean or not.

Can anyone suggest anything that will minimise the output of brake dust (and don't say "brake less" ) OR is there any product that you can apply that minimises the amount it sticks to the alloys.

Also, as a matter of interest, can someone explain why the front wheels are much more prone to this accumulation of dust than the rears?

Cheers

The reason you get more dust on the front wheels is that front brakes do 80% of the car's braking.

I have put EBC Green Stuff pads and EBC discs on my car - the amount of brake dust is now negligible. The EBC pads are made of a kevlar compound which doesn't shed anything like as much dust as regulr pads - I highly recommend them.

Thanks for that Rodders. Are those EBC pads and discs available from most parts outlets, or is there is a particular supplier you'd recommend?

I'd recommend that you join Gold - there's a dealer in our discount directory. If you're going for discs and pads, you'd MORE than get back your subscription.

***** looks like i better change the pads for some greenstuff before i consider changing my alloys especially if there chromes. brake dust will kill them!!:flaming:

Mitch - you will only really get the benefit of greenstuff pads if you change the discs too.

Would you lose the IS200s' great brake feel and stopping power if you change them though. I won't give up the brake feel for anything! Althought I did initially hate the brake dust too, it has gotten a lot better now that it is dry and that it is a year old car now. But after about 3 month even, I felt that it was getting a lot better with the brake dust problem.

Try polishing the alloy with car polish once you have cleaned and dried them, then the dust comes out really easily.

I can't comment on the IS, but the braking performance on my GS has increased significantly as a result of putting greenstuff pads all round and EBC grooved discs on the front.

I also recently added braided steel brake lines which has improved braking even more.

I can recommend the Greenstuff pads for the IS, even without the turbo groove disks the brake dust is negligible. Braking is slightly improved, but was excellent anyway. I got them to reduce dust, and thats exactly what they do! Get some.

Sorry, join Gold and then get some cheaper!:D
