Hi, new here and just got me an IS200

and its due a clean and polish and I need your advice.
I bought some silver Color Magic from turtle wax to wax my car after I finished but im not sure if this is the best stuff.
Im limited to buying only whatever my local halfords has so turtlewax and auto glym are my limits.
What do you think of the color magic stuff and what would you recommend doing to my paint after its been cleaned i.e polish, gloss coat etc.

I'd bin the Turtle Wax and use either the Autoglym (stuff with the red label followed by gold label poslish brings up paintwork a treat), or better still use Zymol wash and polish - all available at Halfords!

Yes get rid of the Turtle Wax. Meguiars is the way to go, I used to use Autoglym myself but doesn't compare.

Meguairs is brilliant, and you can get it via the web. If you're stuck with Halfords, go with the Zymol or Autoglym

Turtle Wax Color Magic will only fill the swirls - not remove them. Next time you wash the car it'll all come off. Keep the Color Magic for your shoes and by a decent wax for a decent car. If you can only get to Halfords then Autoglym or Zymol for the sqwirls but hard work ). Alternatively order some Meguairs form the internet and do a proper job

well looking through the forums and not being able to get any mer... before the weekend i think im gonna go for the Auto glym polish and high gloss for afters. after ive used the bucket and sponge to start with

be careful with the mer, it is abrasive and can remove your paintwork
if you use mer use it only once or twice a year and use meguairs the rest cant go wrong.

Good man, i have used turtle wax colour magic on previous cars and had one bodyshop refuse to spray a panel on my car. He stood their swearing for about 5 minutes about how crap it was and a bodyshop nightmare, something to do with all the silicones it contains. This has been confirmed by many bodyshops since.

I used Colour Magic once - it made a good job of dying all my polishing cloths black but only lasted a short while on the car.

i was thinking of repainting my calipers but i dont think im brave enough yet (not much for modding my cars to be honest). Had a look though and they look fine, no rust or corrosion so will leave alone. Might just stick some logos on though
Well, day 2 of my cleaning marathon and ive now hoovered and polished the windows. Apart from the lower part of the rear window which was sent to this earth to just wind me up :S

Why do you hoover a window

Turtle Wax Color Magic works in the same way as boot polish to fill in the most minor of scratches; those swirl marks. That's why it stains your polishing cloth.
The Autoglym polish (like all polishes) has a fine abrasive to take the edge off the swirl scratches so they're less pronounced. My cars over 4 years old and still doesn't need this yet. I must be doing something right.
I've used the Autoglym gloss which just puts a protective barrier on top. The good thing is it's supposed to be left on for half an hour or so before polishing. So I always put the car in the garage to avoid dust before polishing it off. That way it spends less time outside if it's about to rain. There's no white residue and it doesn't stain the polishing cloth either.
There's full sections on cleaning, polishing and waxing your car. You'll probably find it under "Detailing".

Are the comments about bodyshops not liking Colour Magic true ?
I'd assume a bodyshop would prepare a surface first before having to spray/fill it ?
Reason I ask, is that I have a cupboard full or Meguires, but we still use black colourmagic on the two Mercedes we have in blue/black metallic and they come out a treat and repel water for a long time ?

Well I risked it and my paint didn't fall off

Completely washed, claybarred and wax polished the car.

I was expecting something MER like - powdery, thick sort of stuff.
The Colourmagic was very smooth in consistancy and went on easy. I left it a bit too long in hindsight as it was a pain to get off, but it was the first time I have waxed it.
RainX'd the windows as well, see how that performs on this car.
Oh, and I stuck the Lexus grille badge back on; better methinks.

Looks lovely, really should clean mine at some point too
Agree about the badge, looks better with it on - just noticed you have an IS300 without washers.........do you know if the car was fitted from new with the styling kit?
I know Lexus replaced all the TTE bumpers on IS300 (that were fitted from new) with the newer bumpers with the washers as technically it's not legal to have HID headlamps without headlamp washers.
If it had the kit from new, might be worth asking your dealer (only if it bothers you of course, personally I didn't put the washers on mine as I prefer the look without)

I agree on the washers; they should be there, but I don't like them, lol.
All they are good for is spraying washer fluid up the bonnet imo !
I can hear a second pump going when I wipe the windscreen - I presume that is the headlamp washers.
Also, there is a pipe that runs across the front of the engine block - would this be for heating the washer fluid ?

No idea, didn't actually think the washers on the IS are heated but I'm sure I'll be corrected if that's wrong
