since i am a big fan of mini disk in the car and not really use cd's i am looking to swap the is200 audio system for the jap with mini disk one.

i have the is200 se 8 speaker version. it's working fine and it's the 2000 (lower cd) version. i don't know if this is possible.

thought that you use the radio to control the MD??? - u need to have the radio for the amp to work anyway.

ah, i thought that the jap (altezza) version was with a mini disk player instead of the casette player...

the mini disc player is a seperate part that fits below the radio (where the seat heater buttons are) it is then wired into the Radio unit.

the Minidisc player does not work without the radio

the minidisc player is available from the Lexus dealer

There is a version of the radio that has an integral MD player - not sure if they are JDM only, or what the connections are at the back. I saw one on ebay a month or so ago.

dont know if it will connect, its a JDM part, UK only gets the under radio Minidisc player

you can (or could) buy a minidisc changer than plugs into your current radio

last time I asked about it, it cost £600 !!!!

going by other people with Altezza's they seem to be wired differently to the UK is200 with amp

I've got an official lexus mini disc changer to fit the UK spec IS200. Make me an offer as I'm in two minds whether to sell it or not.

Does anyone else see that that stereo also has a button labelled TV? TV on the satnav screen perhaps?

Without sounding really stupid, who or what is JDM?

JDM is Japanese Domestic Market
the TV button is for watching TV on your satnav screen on the Jap models

I have the MD/cd changer and would happily give it away - the cd mechanism needs a rebuild, though.
One bad point about the system is that it doesn't have as much anti-shock as the UK spec radios
