Ok dokey- Seriously thinkin of a Altezza Rs200 (not too bothered bout trim -but prob Z ed). Seen a couple based here in Manchester(look on Autotrader) but theyre both tiptronics. Really prefer 6 speed manual and would consider personal import from Jap land . Can you guys clear up the minefield of the ESVA and the model reports(or lack of) on the Rs200 manual transmission. I know theres not one avaialble for F6 yet so whats the story???...Any way round it

ive just sold the VERY last manual to make it in before the ESVA rule changes
currently there is NO intention to make a model report for the manual altezza, which is a bit of a bummer as i have another manual altezza that needs a model report.
when i asked the reasons why no model report was going to be done, the answer i got back was " The manual Altezza market is slowing due to the fact that Imported Altezza's with full costings(shipping,esva,conversion,vat,tax) now cost the same as an early IS200 with dealer history, as a result the lure of a cheap import doesn not stack up well against the Altezza anymore".
when i asked then why was a model report done for the Tiptronic cars...
"The tiptronic cars are more sought after than any other Altezza model , because there different to the UK supplied Automatic"
so.take from that what you will.

could you not use the model report from the tiptronic & adapt it ? or is it prohibitive ?
no you can't
mmmm so a car which is identical in every respect (aside from gearbox) needs a new report sounds like typical anal government thinking...could you not use the auto report as a base for the manual report ? thus saving cash on the cost of a new model report ?
This is probably bordering on the silly question - but is it feasible to transplant an autobox into a manual just for the test, and then swap back after?

Dont think you could do that as the car wouldnt tally with its registration document. SVA testers use a model report to check that the vehicle being tested is what has already been fully tested by a testing house -if it tallys with the model report then they just do a simpler test(emissions,lights etc).
The only other option is for someone to get a manual Altezza fully tested and get their own model report drawn up- costs in excess of £5000 (and more if its crash tested!!!). They could then get their money back by renting the report out at say £300 a go whenever anyone wanted a manual Altezza ESVA tested.

Mat, seems to are mis-informed!!
There have been MANY attempts, to create the model report for the manual altezza.... this is constantly underway!!
This is because THE MANUAL ALTEZZA is much more sought after than the tiptronic.
Model reports dot dom, have recently had a "special" cat made by Janspeed to try and get the car through its emissions test at considerable expense..
Just wish they would BLOODY HURRY UP!!

the Altezza i imported also failed on the cat, i had an aftermarket, generic cat fitted and the car passed.
There is no need for special cats of any other "special" anythings.
as long as the cars emmision system is working fully then that is all that is needed to pass the car..
i never said attempts Have NOT been made to make a model report, but simple facts like there is no reason why an auto car would pass and a manual one wouldnt, as Automatics Burn fuel at a less effeciant rate than manuals, so the argument that Manuals are failing because of only emmisions is Codswallop
im not missinformed,I inform people of the facts without trying to make it seem like the business is harder than it is. I send plenty of cars through ESVA every year, just cos i dont post them on here doent mean i am not trading, most of my cars are sourced to order, and go to people all over europe, and not just altezzas, of which i have shipped 3 alone last year, plus 3 supras, 1 Landcruiser, 1 Subaru Imprezza,2 Mr2 and 7 pajero's.
i doubt im misinformed, most of my business is done outside of "Rip of Britian"
By the way the weld in replacement cat only costs £200, so i cannot see why its at "Considerable cost" to Model reports.com

As you said mate, your car passed before the laws changed... I am not doubting your knowledge Mat, wouldn`t dream of doing so...
Just merely telling you what i have been experiencing of late..
I have no idea why the manual altezza requires a specialist cat... but some of the other cars like some of the imprezas uase the same cat, as there emissions were also very high.
I am not trying to inform business is harder than it is at all....
As for the manuals are failing because of there emissions being codswallop... Kindly phone M.I.R.A. up in Nuneaton, and ask them what do the cars keep failing on... i too am only stating fact!

the considerable expense is the cost of the cat being made... plus £500 a pop to have the car tested.... and if it fails... another £500 to have it re-tested once they think it has been rectified... i am not going to stick up for model report, as i think they are all a useless shower of Sh17E!!
In all honesty... could do with you giving them a helping hand and sharing some of your vast knowledge to get one sorted out!!!

as for cat, may i suggest then that an Altezza down pipe is sourced, and a generic cat fitted, i can assure you no special cats are required.
a good quality aftermarket, weld in steel cat will do the job.
if the car keeps failing then im afraid that there are other issues wrong with the car.
as a matter of intrest the Japanese sha-ken is far strickter than anything the UK registration authoritys can do. This is why the cars generally brought to the UK are in pristine condition,
i asume the MAF sensors have been checked on these cars, this was the route problem on one of the MR2'S sold which originally failed its MOT due to emmisions
Having just checked my listings, the Manual Altezza Uses the same Cat and pipe as the Auto
As i also wish to see resalution to this problem, i have just emailed the people i get the esva done with in Cyprus to find out what the issue is
