As always with workshop guides the club or me is not at fault if your car gets damaged or worse. This is only a guide as to how I modified my foglights.

Well, i have been looking into doing this for several months now but never got round to actually starting it, but after Chris posted up about breaking up an altezza i finally decided to make up a set......

Below you will find the guide of how i made them, just in case anyone wants to have a go at it. I know there is probably differnt techniques to take them apart (like putting them in the oven0 but this is how i done them........

I started by getting the two foglights, a heat gun, old screwdriver......

i then slowly worked my way around the edges with the heat gun and screw driver heating up the unit to soften the glue and bend the plastic outwards slightly

Until eventually i had scrapped out the majority of the glue and the unit came apart

now the 3 pieces of the foglight easily come apart

i now reheated the main plastic unit and bent it back into shape and also removed as much of the old glue as possible as it was still warm

then i sanded down the chrome part of the unit with wet and dry sandpaper, primered, painted and lauqered the piece. i sprayed it the samecolour as my car (astral Black)

Then i removed the two small screws that hold the glass lens in place and removed this

I then used some yellow film that i had purchased to apply onto this lens, i wanted some slightly differnt fog lights tongue.gif

and then cleaned and refitted the lens to the main unit

The whole unit was then re-siliconed back together and fitted to the car, I think they look pretty cool, but would like to hear from you lot what you think. Im sorry for the long post tongue.gif but hope you liked the pics.......

Top job, looks real smart. I was just about to ask if it can be done with the head light too. I think this will keep me busy for a while!!! tongue.gif
Zee007
That looks fantastic Jason. Really, really good job!
OLI_EP3
good work there lad.....

few things tho' what film did you use as there's prob alot of heat generated there?

Do they get the condensation build up in there?
LowRed
very nice mod mate simple yet so effective DIY saves a fortune i done most of my car custom DIY saved over 4 grand or so Keep up the good work
Rob
nice write up there! i know people on .net do want the clear lights, so u could always arrange to swap them
jason_l
Didn't take the front bumper off ph34r.gif Managed to get a small ratchet into the gap next to the foglights and undo the bolts, then undone the wheel arch clips and unplugged the light from the back......

I used some folia tec headlight film, its supposed to take the heat and wont warp but we will see what happens..... wacko.gif

Loads left if anyone wants some, just for the price of a stamp tongue.gif

nice write up. detailed instruction with pics always v helpful.

regarding to yellow lenses.. I noticed that if the car comes with OEM HID , then it will have yellow fog lense. e.g. IS300s. or some higher spec IS200s

I hate the yellow lenses - looks like a froggy car. I have some nice bright 8500K blue white bulbs to fit but it's a lot of work taking off the bumper just to pull out the lights and break the yellow glass
LowRed
Just thinking of doing this mod meself but concerned if painting the reflective chrome black will ruin the light spread crying.gif

I have PIAA 100w Spark Blue bulbs - Anyone got any imput? biggrin.gif
Robin H
Top job top write up good pics

looks good
I'll wait for you to do your head lights b4 I do mine tongue.gif biggrin.gif
lee_iceman
Sorry to bring up an old topic but as LowRed asked, does spraying them black ruin the spread of light?
Cheers.
si's_lex
how well do they light up in the dark now that you have sprayed the chrome reflective material in black?? any chance of a night time pic?

A night time pic would be good smile.gif
jason_l
Sorry guys, just seen the new posts on this topic, will take a night time pick tonight and post a few pics up tomorrow, along with my new chrome goodies i have under the bonnet msn-wink.gif

spraying the black part black doesn't really effect the amount of light as the light comes from the bulb itself, and as its projected outwards anyway there maybe a small amount of light lost but doubt you would be able to notice it, plus the black is gloss so reflects some anyway.

Excellent job!

And all the pics are a great step by step guide!

The more pics the better!
PiratePete
yup he's absolutely correct, because the fog lights are the 'fish-eye' lens type the reflector is purely cosmetic and has little or no effect on the light output of the fog light. Paint the bezel any colour you like and it shouldn't affect the output.

But I am pretty sure that using the yellow film on them will make them illegal and that the fog light gets quite hot so it may perish the film pretty quickly.
Rikos
Do think they look good on the black car!

Soon find out if there illegal at the MOT unsure.gif
winnie
JDM original or style are not illegal and will pass an MOT no problem. biggrin.gif
Kazi
A great guide their! Nice one! biggrin.gif
sorted vti
well i had to dismantle the bumper for spraying so i thought while i had the fog lights out id do mine aswell. already done the headlights so this should all look good once finished.

these are so much easier top take apart than the headlights. that was a mission. these were easy. i just shoved them in the oven for a while.

as i only decided to do them half hour ago its a bit late to go get some black paint so that will be first job in the morning. will rub them down tonight and get them prepped for spraying tommorow.

get the bumper back tommorow so i should have it all back together with a lovely clean front end. (minus the number plate recess)

will post some pics of the finished job.
IRLRs200
Just curious why everyone thinks they need to take there bumper off to get these lights off, i got mine off by popping a bit of the wheel arch liner out to remove the bulb then unscrewing the 2 bolts you can access via the air duct beside the fog, and then the whole unit pops out 2 minute jobbie. Maybe its different on the Altezza's tongue.gif

WylieCoyote
