Im hoping to become self employed very soon, I'll be fixing PC problems for customers in their own homes.
I'll need some sort of public liability insurance, can anyone recomend any company I should try?
Thanks :)

Brett,

SNAP!!! Me too!

I just got my insurance sorted out last week. It was from a local broker. Cost me £262 for the year and thats insurace for acting as an "IT Engineer" and also using a soldering iron.

Insurance was from:

West Pennine Insurance Services,
84, Church Street,
Littleborough.
Lancs.
OL15 8AU

www.wpcommerical.co.uk

Tel: 01706 372480

Ask to speak to Colin Hardman and say Anees refered you.

I wish you good luck - but dealing with the general public and fixing home PC's   -Rather you then me! I've had laughably bad experiences with doing it! (Someone onced tried to part-exchange a plant pot they had for a new TFT Monitor! ) Another person kept telling me that their monitor is broken because their cheap pirate VCD's from china are not the same quality was the UK DVD's they have.

You need lots of patience!

Thankfully most of my work should be dealing with businesses/councils (fingers crossed)

Anees

PS I may actually be able to put some work your way in the future if things work out for both of us :whistling:
Brettster
Cheers for that :)
Ive had alot of experience with the general public!! I know what to expect hehe
Maz
Good Luck Brett, hope everything going great for you.... :) :) :) :) :)

Do people still ask where the "Any" key is????

I use Smart and Cook - although there Hull office handles the Liabilty insurance :

Telephone 01482 332222 Anne Crossley

We are in Leeds, but we are a bigger co with field service engineers etc, plus a mate was their sales exec, so we got a good price - worth a call for a comparison.
Brettster
Thanks for the number
I gave her a call but they only cover the larger commercial market and dont cover what I want to do,
but thanks anyway ..
on with the search

Not a bad idea to, better safe than sorry and all, try Allianz Cornhill.

I use Caunce O'Hara

Shopped around a year a so ago and they were the best price for me. Mine covers Contract IT Development work; don't think I'm allowed anywhere near a soldering iron which is probably just as well.

Regards,

Tony

PS - good luck with your new venture. I sometimes get asked by my customers to provide PC assistance and prefer not to if I can help it. If I get any leads in your area I'll pass them on.

PPS - just seen you are in Leeds; I definitely have a customer in Cookridge who could use your help. I'll PM you more info.

i know what u meam my friendand myself do it for a raf base for a few beers and the moans u get when they mess up a few days later and all they have to say is that they bought u a 6 pack i gave up doing it before i beat someone to a pulp for blaming me for getting viri when downloading porn
wish u all the best but its an ungrateful and unknowledgeable market
Brettster
Thanks again Guys :) I know its a hard market, but its a market that seems like its only going to grow and grow, as spyware and nasty things keep finding ways in to peoples home pc's and causing all sorts of problems for the un pc savvy folks, Ive been fixing other peoples PC's for years usually for free !! but I thought I can try and make a go of this :)

T600 Thankyou and you have a PM :) :)
Brettster
Finally got this sorted out, I have 1 million pounds worth of cover and covers me for the use of a soldering iron and cost me £114 including legal aid too, this was from Swinton Insurance.

now on with the show.
Maz
