Hello
I currently have 4 Dunlop SP9000 (Lexus OEM) tyres on my IS, but it's going in for it's MOT and unfortunately the spare is a little, er, unroadworthy. Actually it has a nail in it!
Just wanted to know what sort of tyre I should get for it, because the SP9000 is a directional tyre so it can only go on one side of the car.
Thanks for the advice!

IMHO any tire as long as it is not directional

a directional tyre is fine for a spare
for an emergency or a get you home tyre there isnt a problem
if there was im sure lexus wouldnt put them on the spares

What do Lexus put on their spares? A Dunlop 9000 same as the others?

It doesnt matter if the spare tyre is bald, flat, or unroadworthy for the MOT.

For the MOT the boot shouldn't need to be opened. As LEX200sport has said the MOT does not check the condition of the spare wheel - or if you have one.
In fact my local dealer changed a wheel over for my wife when she had an MOT because one of the 4 tyres wasn't too great, swapped it over with the spare so it passed
