Seems like i have a strange problem
Seem to have a proble with the car conking out when i start it.
Went shopping and came back and went to start the car 2 secons later when the revs dropped from starting it just stopped... tried it a second time and it did it again
I have experienced this 3 times now... When its cold it is ok as the choke keeps the rev up.
What is weird is that when i revved the car up it ticks over nicely normally... just seems when i start the car she conks out again...
Any suggestions
Dirty Air filter?
Leaky air intake
apart from that seems to run sweet

There are multiple things that could cause this behavior:
1) Check the EGR valve and see if it is sticking open. You could disconect the air hose that controls it, plugging the end of the air hose you disconnect. If the engine runs just fine without the EGR valve engaging, then this is the problem. You can also use a vacuum tester to see if the EGR valve opens when vacuum is applied and closes quickly when there is no vacuum.
2) I don't have my manual in front of me, but I think the manual mentioned some type of air control valve that could cause this problem.
3) It could be that there is a gasket leak somewhere in the engine block/intake manifold. When the engine is cold and the engine is running, spray carb cleaner along the sides of the engine. Careful, this stuff is flamible. If the engine speeds up from the spray, then you know you've got a gasket leak, and you can pinpoint it with the spray.

Steve some of these Toyota engines have a "Cold Start Time Switch",normally bolted into the thermostat housing, possibly the prob

cheers Gary and Chris
does not happen all of the time... seems like if i have been dashing about and then park the car for 30 mins... it does it then. It does not do it from morning start or any cold start in fact or it does not do it from hot start.
I did change the air intake hose between the air filter and the Ali Manifold as it was split....
My garage said I should take it to Toyota to have a look at.. but i keep getting fed lines like Its an import and the Diagnostic plug will not fit and it is a different voltage etc.
Is this true? Chris could you ask your techs if that is true regarding the diagnotic plug?
Cheers

Have you thought of taking it to a Soarer specialist Steve? - there's quite a few of them around and they may have the right diagnostic stuff.

It sounds like the hot start problem that plagued the older Preludes and CRXs - from memory (Phil will know) I think replacing the ignitor cured it.

clean the intake plenum with a throttle body cleaner and then run a fuel injector cleaner
after the car is warm it closes the cold bypass for the intake which will cause teh car to die if blocked by carbon and oil varnish from the pcv valve
