I emailed 3 Lexus dealers (Oxford, Bracknell & Reading) for a quote on a 60k service.

Bracknell were the quickest to respond (same day) and quoted £450.65.

Oxford and Reading replied two days later with Reading being the most helpful (as usual) but quoting £609.85.

Oxford's quote was in the middle but kindly expanded on the costs. And get this!

I quote: "The 60k service is £350 inc VAT. On this service, the coolant needs replacing which is £80 inc VAT. The spark plugs also needs replacing and these are £200 inc VAT." A total of £630!!!!!

I don't know much about cars but how can a set of spark plugs cost £200 and coolant cost £80????
Adie
Why not supply your own coolant and spark plugs. You can get the plugs off ebay.. around £30 - £40 for all 6

I'd ask them about the coolant. Toyota Forlife coolant is about twenty quid for 5 litres (I don't think it matters whether it's Red, Pink or Green, the price is about the same). As you're not driving a dumper truck from a quarry I can't see you needing eighty quid's worth.

You could always buy the coolant from Toyota, replace it (and the spark plugs) yourself and stipulate that the coolant & plugs are NOT to be replaced during the service. Any hassle with getting the book stamped and you'll have Trading Standards on your side.

Plugs are probably around £80 from a dealer and the rest is labour. Same with coolant, £20 odd for the product and the rest is labour.

I'm gonna get mine serviced elsewhere in January. There's no way I can afford the £705 I've been quoted from Lexus Bristol.

I just think it's a complete farce having to pay over the top prices just to have your book stamped by the Dealership. Providing you don't go to some unrecognised back street garage that is ! mad.gif

Fit the plugs yourself. £40 from ebay and an hour of your time. A full service shouldn't cost any more than £300 even with a coolant change.

From where though, Colin?

The best quote I have is £395 from Leicester inc coolant change but with my own plugs. Most were £450-£500.

Toyota Forlife coolant is red, green or (I think) pink. My Carina used green (or at least it did until I changed the radiator and filled it with red). Not sure what the differences are.
ColinBarber
pink is the coolant in new vehicles. Long lasting - something like 60k or 100k miles between changes
