Still have not had the balls  to install the Aux I bought a few weeks back. Anyway my question is......

would it be possible to take an iPod in car charger strip the bit that goes in the cig lighter and hook it up to the wires for the cig lighter?

I would like to do this for a neater install and have both the charger and aux in cable coming out through the ashtray, so when not in use and the ashtray lid is closed it's all nice and neat.

Thanks,
Ash

Busy Sunday ............ Saturday maybe ...................

As for the iPod thing ......... you can a cable that will plug into the bottom of it ...... and theother end to be two wires ready for hard wiring ............

Like I hard wired Adie's iPod convertor for his HU.

The cable that goes into the bottom of the ipod came with the pioneer ipod adapter. That then plugs into the adapter and the adpater is wired into a live. The other end plugs into the aftermarket headunit so you can control the ipod through that. It also charges it at the same time.

I'm not sure you'll be able to cut the end off your charger and wire it straight in. If you've got a spare you could try it. But i dont know if it'll damage the ipod in anyway.

It might be the same as cutting off the cigarette lighter end on a car phone charger and wiring that straight in. I think someone has done this for their road angel... Jiberjaber (Jason) perhaps??

You could get another cigarette lighter socket (halfords etc) and wire this onto the back of the one in the car (under the center console ) and then just plug into that, no need to cut any wires this way and everything should be out of sight under the console.

what system have you bought for plugging in?

Have you guys heard of the Dension Ice LInk plus. Its an extremely good system. MOst others on the market either don't charge while in use, don't display ID tags, or have limited use. Dension does all.

:shifty:

I start @ 10pm and finish @ 6am.

So if I wake up around 12pm - 1pm .... I'm available after that :D

I've not measured it, but if the current draw of the charger that plugs into the lighter socket is less than 3A, you can take it straight off the new harness that you are going to plug in.

Use the grey(+) and brown (-).

Scarface, if you are doing it I'll take a piccy of the wires in the harness as a couple are similar.
