: Just joined the club have been very intrested in some of fellow members contributions.this one may save you a packet.Ihad a slight change in the sound of my ls400 1990 engine noise (front end} a distinct whine.Engine ran ok under all conditions so I put it down to wear of something .A couple of days later the tempature guage shot to the top and the engine blew all the water in the top end out of the radiator expansion cap.I left it for a while and then drove ten mile home and it was fine.My friend took a lookat it the following day and diagnosed a faulty thermostat. We replaced the thermostat and the engine was fine for two weeks. Then on a journey home the engine died and I freewheeled into the sideof the highway.Result ;failed water pump this stripped the new timing belt and damaged the timing belt tensioners. At the time the car had done 130k. Moral of the story if it whines get it checked. As it happens the tensioners were worn and probably needed doing the onlyI thing could have saved on was the timing belt and a lot of worry when the £800 bill arrived from Lexus dealer
