Depends whats on your log book.
Ins co.s have Toyota Aristo as an import model on their sys. therefore higher group ins.
My log book states Lexus GS300 - but l informed the ins. co. that it was an import.
Therefore it was cheaper to insure as their insurance sys. stated a lower group i.e. GB model premium.
Whats it state on your log book?

The club can now insure imports through our own tailored scheme.

I've insured with Privilege (Part of Direct Line) previously but found out that Tesco's Insurance was cheaper this year. Still costs me an arm and a leg though. Hopefully when my Gold membership goes through then I can see if the club insurance helps. Most insurance companies don't want to know. I'm still paying in excess of £1000 for my 98 Aristo V300 Vertex even though I'm over 30 with 8 years no claims and no points. I'd be interested if anyone has found a way to keep the cost down legit.

I have called pretty much all the major Insurance and specialist insurers the last couple of years that I've owned the car and Direct Line (or their sister companies) were really the only ones to come up with a quote less than £1500- if they will even entertain the car at all.
I've been a Direct Line customer on and off for 8 years or so and have had to make claims from them before. Never had anywhere near the problems you describe - if fact I'd have to say they dealt with the accident that was not my fault and where my car was written off in a very professional manner although my car was not as new as the one described (3 years old).
My brother works in a car bodyshop and according to him Direct Line are not the worst he has to deal with although he says a high proportion of cars are now written off rather than repaired due to the cost of parts and labour.
Can't wait to see what kind of quote I can get through the club scheme though - The cost of insurance is probably the worst part of owning the car.

I am going to look at a vertex tomorrow got quotes from both tesco and adrian flux bearing in mind im 26, 3 points, 5 yrs no claims. tesco quoted £1214.85 with no claims protection and adrian flux were £947.50 with no claims protection both £300 excess.
Can recommend adrian flux as they insure my other import and have had no probs with them

If you go GOLD, you can then go with the LOC Insurance Scheme setup, they have saved me £280 - my insurance for my aristo import - group 23

insured me for £702 - 6 six NCB and I'm 32. Before was with Admiral and paying £980, got quotes from Tesco's and Adrain Flux, both were over the £1100 mark, too much for the car
