i thought the turbo would take a while to be shipped, turns out it was sent by airmail, and got here sooner than i thought biggrin.gif
Mr Morse
I have the standard (non-hybrid) CT20 on the Tubby....nice turbo, spools up very quickly biggrin.gif
aido
Blimey that's bonkers, the Starlet will be crazy with that much power in such a small car!

Can't wait to see it biggrin.gif
Adie
Well done Barrie, that sounds like a great set up you're going for there mate. biggrin.gif Look foward to seeing the pics

Hope to see it at Santa Pod smile.gif

sounds good mate
Ellz
When i started reading it i was reaching for my wallet as i thought u were selling lol

Gonna be nice barry do u think you be bringin it to the speed trials ????

Tractions gonna be a massive issue with that much power.

Doddys puntos getting stripped down again soon so he should be hitting the 200hp mark hes just waiting on a mutsi turbo, id love to see u 2 battle it out at Pod smile.gif

Looking good dude, that thing was fast enough at the ring, *** knows how quick it will be when you are done
Bazza
the latest update :
the transplant begins

as it was :

starting to strip !

its out ohmy.gif

comparing the new (right) to the old, the red is not blood, its coolant msn-wink.gif

fitting together

its in biggrin.gif

its a bit tight ohmy.gif

filter fitted

well thats all i managed today, had a bit of a late start, and was knackered by the time it was dark
few runs and a few adjustments later
and.....it lives, biggrin.gif

still quite a few more bits to go on, the oil cooler still hasnt arrived, hopefully it will give a bit more space, by relocating the oil filter to somwhere more assessible

smile.gif
Adie
Looking good mate biggrin.gif

Hi,

Your car really is shaping up Bazza, that 4 branch should help the New Turbo breathing a bit better.

What sort of Power/Torque are you looking for when all the work is done?

Looking very nice Bazza but I think you will have some serious torque steer with all that going though the front wheels tongue.gif

dunno how true the title is as i looks like the dodgest dyno ever
Bazza
a few developments

after seeing very high oil temperatures, is was necessary to get them cooler, the new turbo will help, but is was deemed necessary for a bit of cooling help

finally the oil cooler arrived
along with the filter relocator
and thermostatic divertor
a load of braided hose
and fittings
managed to find somewhere to put it all ! , its getting a bit tight in there now ohmy.gif
after a lot of measuring, dismantling and cutting its in biggrin.gif
have sore hands, that braided hose isnt very skin friendly cry.gif

divertor is located behind the chassis bar

a little bit of tidying and tying up, and another job done
hopefully this will keep those oil temperatures down !

other developments
the turbo is having a new exhaust housing fabricated
this will allow the use of an external wastegate to allow more consistant boost levels
obviously nothings straight forward, in turn a new manifold is now being fabricated along with a new downpipe to accomodate the external wastegate cry.gif

as they say, Rome wasnt built in a day laugh.gif
Ellz
very nice barry wot oil cooler is it ????

Very nice barry, have u got a catch tank ???

Good work Barrie biggrin.gif

The stainless over braiding is quite abrasive and can "saw" through things, so it would be worth while considering spiral wrap for the hoses to protect peripheral components.

PLEASE tell me you have connected the remote oil filter pipes correctly. We saw an engine seizure a couple of weeks ago due to a garage installing one of these incorrectly by not realising that there is a one way valve inside the filter.
Monster-Mat
hopefully the filter head had the flow markings on it

yep all flow and returns checked biggrin.gif

will be double checked, then triple checked when the oil pressure meter is connected

the filter head, the divertor, the adaptor plate were all marked with arrows smile.gif

the hoses will be secured and where necessary wrapped, youre not kidding about it being abrasive ! my hands are still sore laugh.gif

I hope so
still a bit to do but should be ok..........famous last words !!! laugh.gif
Ellz
Looks good barry cant wait to see this little beast go.

Ill post some of doddys up as its pretty much done
Bazza
well the latest installments are now all fitted

easy peasy ............

looking up

managed to fit it all in ohmy.gif .........with a little bit of work wink.gif

had to:
cut and realign the exhaust to mate with the new downpipe, this involved welding ...something i had never done before !!, but hey ho never to old to learn biggrin.gif
then do it all again as i didnt measure enough times
realign turbo oil feed
realign turbo water feeds
fit new radiator and fabricate a housing for the fan
fabricate a bracket for the downpipe brace
fabricate brackets for the new radiator
realign turbo water feeds after finding the wastegate brace needed their space
cut and reweld intercooler pipework to meet new turbo position
scratch my head trying to work out where the filter was going to end up(eventually deciding on a temporary position straight below the turbo (this however turned out not such a great decision)
fabricate internal wastegate clamp
heat wrap screamer pipe
watch heat wrap fall off !! cry.gif

finally top up oil, fill up with anti freeze
and guess what it started first time biggrin.gif

took it for a test drive (private road of course)
the power is fantastic, slightly more laggy but as soon as it hits boost its like a rocket
stops dead on 0.95 bar, no creep at all
all was going fine
until ...a smell of burning !
and a little bit of smoke !
opened the bonnet to find oil sprayed everywhere cry.gif
suspect there is a leak through the oil cooler pipework as it seems to originate from the front, hard to know where exactly as everythings covered in oil
oil pressure remained ok throughout
air filter is now covered with oil !!!

oil to the left of the engine bay

oil covering drivers side wheel

oh well another weekend working on it coming up laugh.gif
DAZA_W
looking nice mate shame about the oil leak
did you get the ecu fitted yet?
Continunity
Looks great bazza,

Adie
