Lets start a discussion on what we are all using, so we can find the best and most effective product.
I use Auto-glym, good quick lasts well, but leaves white resdue, I currently polish every month.

I must say.. I use Auto Glym too.. I never have any problems with residue.. though I am using the resin only.. maybe I should buy some high gloss polish too.
Auto Glym has to be the best on the market i have ever used. Really easy to use.
I also use the intererior shampoo... When i bought the car there was sweets and chocolate on the back seat.. I used auto glym shampoo on the seats and the chocolate was gone within seconds!
Great stuff

Any of you guy's got a Black car?
If so do you have a problem with scratches under the top coat that you cannot remove even with scratch remover?
Help please
Steve
December 11, 2001, 2:27 am
mine is dark green and i suffer from that around the door locks... after ploishing it leaves the white marks.
I dont do it oftern, in fact rarely but i usually t-cut the scratch out... but dont do this too many times.. just the once and make sure you wax it after... that will solve it
or if you wanna get rid of the white scratch marks get some of that black polish

I use smthg called Black Diamond. Its easy to put on, but an absolute pig to take off - I've bought the mitt from Halfords. However it was formulated by my Uncle (and so Im biased) and it lasts for about 8 months and increase the paints refractive index,in direct sunlight, about 100% & decrease the surface tension so water just runs straight off. Apparently you can buy it in Australia.

Best finish I've found (and protection) is using P21S carnuba wax from the USA. Not cheap, but the finish is outstanding. At our last Club meet - I had so many ask how I had just travelled over 100 miles in December weather and still had the superb shine (on a 7 year old car!)
Steve
December 17, 2001, 1:58 am
is this possible to buy in the UK.. and where??
UltraViolet
December 17, 2001, 4:31 am
No - I'm afraid not (currently) - but I know the S2000 owners are discussing a group buy and I will certainly be getting some more. Buying as a group so splitting the shipping and duty costs should fetch it down a little. Basically it is a paintwork preparation treatment and seperate tub of Carnauba Wax. Costs about $25 but once shipping and duty VAT added - about £40-£50 for the kit.... still cheaper than Zymol (about £70 a tub, and not as good!)

February 20, 2002, 11:34 pm
i have used turle wax metallic, yes its a bit of a pain in the ar!e to apply but it also removes any tar/gum deposits and as you are looking where you put it you notice any marks/sap on the car.
As im a lazy git, i bought one of those polishing machines, i must say i am surprised, it works great, get a great shine, just have to get used to putting a small amount of polish on now.

My mate from work says that the Meguires polish is the best he has ever used. He says it kicks Auto-Glyms *****

February 22, 2002, 3:56 am
ps - does anyone else hate that white residue dust you get with Auto-Glym?? It takes days for that stuff to come off
Steve
February 22, 2002, 4:09 am
hmmm.. i dont get residue.... do you wipe it off when it is dry>. i rub the whole car with it then go round and rub it off when its dry.
i find it cool.. but that is the resin one.. not super shine or what ever it's called
Wallace
February 25, 2002, 10:30 pm
Hi andyhart! The windscreen cleaner from Autoglym is just as bad for leaving dust all over the place! Seems to hide under the windscreen rubber, just when you think its all gone!

The post above are about 3 years ago, so what about the technology today ? Which brand of the polish/wax is best for our IS200, Meguires, Mothers, Autoglym etc ? Can the experts here continue their advise for the technology today ? Anyway, what's Autoglym, haven't heard of it before.

Autoglym is a resin polish part of a range of products produced by, you guessed it Autoglym.
All their products are excellent and you can source them from most car accessory shops ie Halfords etc.

I use an Hydrophobic nanotech polyglasplesin 12 % PTFE resin polish.
Mr Morse
January 21, 2006, 4:40 pm
And what's that.....in plain English?
eurochem
January 21, 2006, 9:05 pm
Mike
More or less what is says on the tin.
We use this resin for lots of applications cars, boats, aircraft, space rockets, wind farm blades and recently military radar systems in Cyprus and Turkey.
Basically its a rather special polyplexin polymer with suspended Nanotech particles that are so miniscule they get into almost every open pore of micron of area covered.

I used Turtle Wax about 10 years ago. I bought it because of the TV commercail that shows how briliant it is. But I did not find it as good as it was shown on the TV, it was pretty general Though
mr zymol
January 25, 2006, 7:08 pm
Zymol is the best stuff available and is totally natural, carnauba in its natural form is harder than concrete and zymol contains way more than the others so offers more protection. many people find it difficult to use and the instructions a bit baffling but if you get the correct info it is simple and easy.
the whire residue some of you complain of is chalk which is used as a drying agent, but read the bottles and see some of the other ingredients (petroleum dissilate) solvents, harsh chemicals who would want to put these on there car when natural products far superior are available. the products are also not expensive, you just get a lot for your money, please, please please drop me a line if you need any help.

I used the Auto-glym window cleaner for the first time this week and thought it was excellent, wait for it to dry then wipe off, comes off easy too.
I have recently started using Meguires polish for bodywork and very happy with the results, better than auto-glym i think....

I have used the Turtle Wax Platinum stuff on the leather seats - does a really good job, pleasantly surprised.
Apart from that, it's Meguiar's all the way for me.

This is after I used the Deep crystal 3 stage system. The pics are only of my missus' old motor and were taken after slight rain with a mobile phone but the stuff worked absolutely brilliantly. It is the best I've seen without the help of a buffer or polisher.
This 3 stage system is only to be done every 6 months to a year so I use the Meguiars Gold class polish on a regular basis. It is carnuba based and is much easier to use than the autoglym stuff as it is a very fine polish and only a very light coat is needed each time!
I would strongly recommend that autoglym users at least give the meguiars a go so you can see the difference yourself
