Hi Guys
Just after your thought on having you car serviced at a 'normal' garage and not a Lexus Dealer?
Apart from the cost implications are there any benifits or drawbacks? just a bit worried if I sell the car lexus will argue is has not got a Lexus full service history! It has so far been stamped by Lexus but considering going else where for this service!

If you can afford it - get it done at Lexus and continue the FLSH.

If not (like me), get it done in a reputable garage which people will recognise. I got mine done last Saturday by Nationwide Autocentres (an AA recognised and recommended company). It was the 60k service which would have cost approx £700. I got it done by this garage for £179. The only difference apart from the Lexus stamp, is that they didn't change the battery in the remote !

You will probably find that you could lose a little money when you come to trading in, but you will also find that you will be saving money in the meantime - swings and roundabouts mate.

I do some of the servicing myself (oil, filter etc) and take it to a local independent performance performance car specialist.

20K service (not oil/filter, but including brake fluid change) all for £70 + VAT

Plus they stamp the service book.

Since I'm not planning on selling the car in the forseeable future I begrudge paying rip-off Lexus charges that add nothing to the value of the car.

On the one service my car has had under my ownership I took it to an independant garage and got my book stamped with receipts for the genuine Toyota/Lexus parts used and saved a tidy sum.

That sounds like a good idea! Might just ring around a few place to get a qoute. Lexus going to do me a Intermadiate service for £85 all in plus a bit off for gold membership not sur if this is good or not? Still sounds a bit expensive for what is basically an oil change!

Hmmm......that doesn't sound too bad to me. I think it's about £79 for an intermediate service at Nationwide Autocentres.

Personally I'd go for it and get the Lexus stamp for that money. You'll probably find that they do loads of checks on the car for you as well - ring 'em and find out what they do for £85

Yeah suppose its not that bad, Yes they do loads of looking and 'checking' but dont actually replace anything! Suppose its better that not looking at all!

Why go to main dealer anyway? Legally, you can get a brand new car serviced at any SMMT dealer and still keep the warranty intact. If you plan to do big mileage and/or keep the car for many years, why pay through the nose at Lexus?

I have used an independent dealer (he's ex-Lexus) for my car, and his labour rate is 40% of the Lexus rate, plus he lets me bring my own parts. Will show you around the car on the lift, to point out exactly what is wrong.

All my local Nationwide Autocenters said they wouldn't do the servicing without supplying their own spare parts, even though they would source them from the same place from which that I got them.
Colchester area.

Then find a Garage that will let you supply your own parts biggrin.gif

Otherwise, they Quote £200 for about 4 hrs work, including parts. I spent at least £100 on parts including oil and plugs, trade, so I'm suspicious of his quote

Anybody got any comments?

What is inc. in a 60k service from Lexus and whats meant to be done?

I thought Prolex did servicing why not try them for pricing!

Its a gamble where ever you take your pride and joy unless you have an idea of needs doing and if they actually do the correct work.... Its all very confusing.

How where?
Prolex wesite shows parts catalogue only as far as I can see?

I don't mind paying Lexus prices if I get Lexus/Toyota servicing standards. Their workshops are immaculate and as an engineer, I suspect your good 'ole boy down the road. He may talk a good job, but if you see a ****ty workshop, you'll get a ****ty job.
I always insist on seeing the workshops before I'll let them touch the car.
