On my GS 300 radio when i turn it on the letters seem to fade then return to normal. The effect is like a ghosting effect on the letters and numbers. It also happenes in CD mode. Any suggestions

I've heard about this from several members of non sat nav series II vehicles. Seems to be a problem with the LCD module itself or it's connectors. I've never tried taking one apart to clean the connectors of the display myself, others have said it cannot be taken apart.

Seems to be a common problem with earlier models, although my Lexus dealer had never heard of it  .

What's the exact year & model?

If you have the Pioneer radio, this link might help:

There are many posts & lots of helpful info on this board.
Info on removing the radio is also available on LOC USA.

Made my repair very easy. :D

It is a GS 300 SE on a 1999 plate

A year younger than mine, but hopefully the same radio.
This site will show you how to remove the radio to check the make. If it looks like the one in the photos with a couple of knobs reversed, that's a good sign.

Its only necessary to free the radio & pull it forward to check the model number on a sticker underneath.
If its KEX-M8176ZT, then the part from my other post is the one you need.
Any other help, or if you need the radio Manual, let me know.

Regards,

Max.
