HI

while under the bonnet today I checked over the throttle cables and they all seem very slack

Correct me of I am worng here

there are 2 throttle cables one direct and one from a box of tricks on the front OS

there is a kick down cable on the bottom

How should these be adjusted as there seems loads of free play

also the alen screw with the 8mm nut on it / is that a tick over adjustment ?? as I seem to remember from another post I read that the tickover was set electronically

Should this be adjusted at all ?
Mr Morse
The first 15% is manual (from the throttle cable), the remaining 85% is "fly-by-wire"....

So yes, it's a good idea to screw in the slack, but don't overdo it.

HI Mr Morse

thanks for the quick reply, do you know about that grub screw how that should be set ?

Not sure about the grub screw.....I don't remember seeing one on the IS300 2JZ-GE

If you look down on top stood at the front it is on the throttle linkage next to the throttle body on the GS 300 Mk 1 it is a small allen headed grub screw with a lock nut

the Mk 1 gs isnt fly by wire, and the fly by wire element in the later cars is within the ecu/throttle, the mechanical linkage is always acting upon the throttle.

do not adjust out the slack, it is there to allow the correct movement on the throttle quadrant.

regards the grub screw this is to adjust the idle, however this is normally a pre set item at the factory, as the idle control valve operates the plunger which the grub screw is located in, this idle control valve is activated by manifold pressure but controlled by the ecu.

Ok then I will slacken them off a bit as I tightened them up, it didn't seem to make to much difference but I didn't open her up much on Cornish back roads

Is there a point where 1 of the cables starts the other cable moving to set it correctly or is trial and error until it runs smooth ?
