Full Version: In The Market For A Sc430... Any Suggestions / Jan,feb Better Months?
Lexus Owners Club > Lexus Models > SC Model
SC-berks
I've spent too many Saturdays driving around looking at Mercs, Lexus's, Mazdas and Maseratti's and have made the emotional commitment to get the SC for me and my wife. Black w Black interior seems a good combo,, but have only found 1. I put a deposit down to get it to my area and eagerly await to check it out

It's got 60,000 on the clock a 52 reg and going for around £25K... which although maybe a grand or two more than I could spend; a bargain for a luxury auto and big step up for us.

Should I be worried about the mileage... other than the fact that in 40,000 miles the car will be looking pretty grim on the typically "low mileage" second-hand luxury car market??

My other option:
One over-informative sales guy let on that quite a few come on the market in January, Feb... Is this typically true? should I wait or just dive in and be happy with the awesome car that I get???

Anything I should look-out for with an SC430 at 60Kmiles?? I'm getting it through a dealership.

Many Thanks for the help and advice.

nothing to worry about regarding the 60k miles other than making sure the 60k service has been performed as this more expensive than a normal full service.

I'm not really sure why there would be a large number on the market in Jan/Feb. I would expect more to be available in March as the 03 and 04 plate vehicles become 3 and 4 years old.

I think most convertibles are more difficult to sell at winter time so a bargain should be available in what is definitely a buyers market.

I've had my SC for 3 months now and Lexus build quality is without doubt second to none.

These engines are good for well over 250,000 miles.

I would recommend one with the suspension upgrades and not run flat tyres.

Only problem i have heard of is slight squeaking of the roof. Mine does not do this.

Go for it! biggrin.gif

Hi
I total happy with my car 2002 model with 54,000 miles, you cant even hear the engine while on tick over
The only thing is you only get around 22 mpg average, but who cares when you enjoying your drive.
Check the boot struts as these often need changing.

So go get one and enjoy......

Many Thanks,
Suspension upgrade? if this isn't done already, how much will it run me. What sort of Dampeners should I look for?

I'm planning on putting different alloys on. ( getting a qoute on 2006 Model alloys from Lexus and other than that figure I'm going to be spending £3K - £5K on a set of very nice wheels )

Saw Ian Botham's old SC430 on the internet.. had some Altera Alloys on it. Thought they looked great... but unfortunately the car is a little dear, me-thinks.

He put a new Stainless steel exhaust on his also.. but don't see the need...

Dont know a great deal about this, but believe the shocks were changed to a monotube design in 2003 and the runflats were not supplied anymore This was in response to the bad press on handling that it had.

There is a label under the bonnet which says if it has the suspension mods! Not sure how much to upgrade though.

Cheers

Insist on the cambelt being changed. This is the most expensive service, sometimes upto £1500. If this item fails you lose the engine. This is the only problem you can have with a lexus.
