Hmmm, never thought about that.
I usually just make sure it is at maximum, then just check it after an oil change.

When i change oil on my cars, i fill up to bottom dimple, start the engine up, so the oil gets into new oil filter, then top-up, it takes about 1L to top dimple, but it is filling oil filter too hope this helps

On my 3S-GTE it's almost exactly 1 litre using Gord's method
