Although I am totally new to posting on this site, I know from following various topics that this has been done to death.

However, I was wondering if anyone had posted pictures of what the pitting/corrosion on the IS200 wheels looks like?

Mine, when dirty end up with clear'ish spots on them, and in a couple of places the paint looks slightly bubbled. Is this what I should be looking for?

One garage mentioned that new replacements had run out and they had gone back to fitting refurbs which he didn't reccomend as looked different.

Are the refurbs better as they are coated all over?

Thanks for any of your help, its amazing how nervous you feel putting one of these things up!!

Hi Kev, my wheels have justed started to bubble slightly on the edge of the spokes.
Went to Lexus Leicester on Saturday, they had one look & said "we will order a set of replacements for you, they should be here for Tuesday". These will be the refurbished tpye that are fully lacqured, I would say these wheels will be better. Although I do like the bare machined finished on the original wheels.
ricky_is200
This is what mine looked like (this was at 50K miles)

WoW, thats not good. Mine are nowhere near that. I just get a bit of bubbling on the edge of some of the spokes. The wheels are dirty at present but if I get round to cleaning them and find the work dig. camera I will post a piccy.

I guess yours is the "norm" then for our "quality" wheels?!
ricky_is200
I don't think mine was the norm, a lot of people have had them replaced at well under 10K miles, I waited until 50K miles when they had got worse and worse. As its a well known problem you shouldn't have to wait until they get to a terrible state.
JOHNNY-BOY
Mine have only just started to bubble, no problems with getting them replaced by Lexus Leicetser though.

Can't have any little bubbles on my car
Zee007
Had mine replaced after about 30k - they were as bad as Rich's rims, but the new ones were on just in time for JAE last year...... B)
kev dood
Did they replace them with reconditioned wheels (painted all over) or new ones, which have the milled bit on the front.

Dunno which I would prefer really. Some of the IS's I have seen in show rooms have had ones which are not milled on front - look a bit more like the GS series ones then! Bit too smooth maybe for the lean and clean cut IS!

I got the laquered all over replacements - same as what Johnny's getting I think. Although the lip isn't as shiney, they still look good, and are a darn sight easier to clean..... :)
JOHNNY-BOY
As Zee said I am getting the lacquered type fitted on Friday.
I shall post a pic of before & after so the differencies can be viewed.

What are these special sidelamp bulbs like Johnny cause I might want some white ones
JOHNNY-BOY
I will post a pic of my blue sidelights in action tonight, they produce a high output.
Zee has the blue & white combo, whilst Andy & I have the pure blues. Not seen the pure whites in action but if they are like ours then they will be good.
The cost was £20.00 a pair from Graham Goode in Leicetser, they are made by PIAA

Look forward to seeing what they look like?

Also, excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between silver indicator bulbs compared with the standard ones?

The buld glass is coated, so they look silver when not flashing. But they still flash orange, look really good in the rear clusters as they blend with the chrome and don't stand out like the orange ones do IMO anyway :)

Thanks for the info. Johnny. I will look out for those at my next meet (donnington). Can I purchase them from anywhwere in Notts, or mail order?
JOHNNY-BOY
Company in Gold, discuss in Gold or PM me if unsure which company.

I've fitted them to the front lights of the merc, you can no longer see yellow through the headlight lenses, they do look cool.

Jonny, does Graham Goode sell the whole PIAA range, I can't decide between the white LED side lights and the XTREME white bulbs. I'm looking for as close to HID as possible.
JOHNNY-BOY
Not sure if they sell the whole range but they did sell headlight bulds & the PIAA wiper blades so they may be able to order them in.

Give them a call, worth a try.

Spot on JB - they look ace! Ifraz, you must purchase my friend... ;)

Rich - If I remeber correctly, Graham Goode can get any PIAA bulbs you need... what do your white LED's look like? You happy with them....?
ricky_is200
Sorry Zee, I meant I'd fitted the silver vision indicator bulbs, I haven't changed the side lights yet, I can't decide between the white LED side lights and the XTREME white bulbs both are £20 for the pair.

ah - apologies Rich, my misunderstanding.

I would go with the LED's personally - longer life, brighter, and crystal clear. Take a look at mine at Brooklands (as I have White/Blue) and make a call from there?

JB or I could always pick a pair up for you from GG and send them to you or give you them at a meet....? :)
Chris.S
I think I'll order some of the white ones for the new car
Chris.S
does Graham goode do mail order ?

Yep.
Or as Zee said we could pick a set up for you and do a deal at the Brooklands or Donnington meets
ricky_is200
did I hear you mention you got a discount Johnny?
RYX
I fitted the white PIAA LED's to mine a while ago, they still have a blu-ish tint I feel (would prefer bright white to go with the HID's), but they look soooo much better than the standard ones. B) B)

If you don't mind old chap, as you are off.
Be an excuse to do some more cruising with those new rims on B)

Don't be put out if they get a discount :P

Ive just fitted the combination white/blue PIAA LED's as sidelights. They are bright BUT only from an angle of about 45 degrees from the front of the car as they have lenses built into them and they become 'directional'. The give a brillient blue cast to the reflectors which looks great but I would have been happier if they had shone forwards.

If you or anyone else for that matter would be happy with them and could make use of them I will willing sell them for a little return (say £10 ?) and post them to you at cost as personally they are not what Im looking for.

They have only been in the motor for a few days and have had little use. (but LED's last an eternity)
PM me if you are interested and we will arrange something and I will look for something else
ricky_is200
Zee, when you go mate (sorry to be a pain...) could you also get me the PIAA Xtrme White bulb as well (Wedge/W5W aren't they?). I've just phoned them and they have them in stock, £11.91 inc VAT for 2. I'll give you the money when I see you or I can send you a cheque.

Then anyone who's interested can compare them at the meet.

Bluebeard, its the White/White i'd want like Chris sorry otherwise I would be interested.
Bluebeard
S'Ok Ricky - the offer is still open to anyone - just drop me a PM

1 set of PIAA Xtreme White Sidelights @ £12 a pair (for Rich)

Rich - don't worry about the cash mate, just sort me out when I give them to you....

Any more for anymore? :shifty:

Hi folks,as I,m new to this I'm sorry if this question has been asked before but my free replacement alloys have started to corrode(fitted 7 mths ago) , whats the chances of the lexus dealer replacing them again F.O.C ?
Steve ( West Mids )
Kev .... if they fitted them 7 months ago they will still be under a 12 month warranty for any parts fitted .... so get some more ...... were they new or refurbished??

##################

Maybe an oppurtunity for a photo shoot of wheels tomorrow at Gaydon for the guys that can't get them replaced ...
Tony C
I have a 2000 IS200SE. The first set of wheels all blistered up quite quickly, starting from the edge of the spokes.

The seconed set lasted 3 months until they experienced the first winter road salt. These started to blister straight away as well, despite frequent cleaning.

last month I had fitted a new set of the refurbished type. These are very heavily laquered, and slightly dull in comparision. They appear to be wearing well.

As my 3 yr warranty is up next month if they last ,I will be happy !
Kev H
Thanks Steve, the wheels were new but the previous ones were refurbs- moisture got under the lacquer after a couple of months but lexus Aberdeen changed them- no questions asked! The new ones aren't bad yet but are starting to "bubble" around the base of the spokes.Sorry I can't post any pictures-no digital camera!
