Just bought my first lexus GS300 Mk1 (1994). When I bought the car, dealer told me that there was an alternator problem and he had ordered a new one. He fitted the alternator, bought the car and the first day I got it, everything fine until that evening, car difficulty in starting, eventually started switched on headlights and they went dim then all warning lights illuminated, managed to get home (side lights only) the next day would not start, had the car transported back to garage (discovered that since 24/10/06 the car had been fitted with 3 new alternators and 1 new battery). Car still in garage and has been diagnosed as an engine pulley problem. Been told that the engine pulley has got a rubber strip on it which ensures he belt turns and this was the cause of the problem. Never heard of this before. Apparently all lead continuity is fine. Hope to get the car back tomorrow, hopefully problem solved. Has anyone ever come across this problem and what was the cause. A little bit sceptical about the pulley.
