Didn't vote for the higher gears (such as 6th) as I've not yet managed or tried the following, but by being in them and having a smile on your face, you're either:
( a ) Satisfied with your MPG

Oh 1st gear is good enough for me ! Gets the front wheel up all the time !
On my Carina E it was 4th, great for throwing the car round the bends through Powys at night! Course, got an auto now...
2nd gear + 400Nm of torque gets things moving nicely

You should try over 500Nm in 2nd gear
