I had a grinding noise coming from the drivers side rear wheel when the brakes were off. I've had it in the garage today and they have checked all wheels and I need new discs and brakes all round.

They have quoted me £550 to do the lot including VAT and labour. It sounds a hell of a lot to me. Am I being ripped off or is this about right?

ohmy.gif I think your being bent over mate.

You can buy a whole set of Mintex discs and pads fro around £250 I think. Fitting is easy enough to do if your compentent or get a local garage to fit them, should cost more than £100 to fit.
Rob
you can change the front discs and pads in 30 mins and that includes taking the wheels off - as said above i think someone is lubing your behind up
Rikos
If you look on ebay you can get pads and discs for £115 for the front and then another £115 on the back and as lee said shouldnt costs anymore than £100 if you dont want to do them yourself.

Hey guys,

I have to get my front pads and discs done soon I found this Mintex box set online (mintex pads and discs). They are the best priced ones I could find that were genuine Mintex and they only cost £82.95 inc delivery. I'm going to get them done at my local jap specialist mechanic and not Lexus Poole. Lexus quoted me £420 for the job, just rediculous! Anyway the local garage will fit my pads and discs for £55.10. That all ads up to a total of £138.05 not bad at all I'll be buying these and fitting them this month. : )

I think someone has done a walk through in the knowledge section....should be able to print it of mate.

I found with using mintex pads on the front all's they did was move about in the caliper when braking, i kept getting a clunking noise when turning and braking, even added the shim kit to try and stop it.
In the end i just bought the toyota stock pads... and now no more clunking :-)
Maybe i just had two badly machined sets... i dunno.

Do them yourself its a doddle , the fronts are easy the pisons in the calipers push in but the rears aren't so straight you are going to need a wind back tool to wind the rear caliper pistons in , don't worry though coz you can get em cheap enough and its always handy to have for next time /next car .
If you need any help give me a shout and I,ll guide you through .
Regards
Paul.

if your changing the back pads on a is200 there a peace of ***** to do one pin to take out then a spring holding the pads in place, you don't need a winder the pistons just slide back better doing one piston at a time then put the pad in then slide the other back, did not need to change the disk as it was fine.don't have pick but a real easy job to do only took me 20mins both sides.
