Just bought a 90/91 Celsior (at least on a J plate).
It did have airshocks but someone replaced them in the past for coils.

I have the usual sports mode, height, and TEMS switches, but infront is a small red button with japanese writing that looks like it belongs there.

With all new toys, of course you randomly push non familiar buttons to see what they do, and this one fell through before anything activated.

This car is a bit odd though, too old for SVA (I guess), so the fuel filler isn't reduced, the speedo isn't converted and it doesn't have the usual bolt on rear fog light, but the radio is a Lexus premium pioneer, with full uk frequency range. There is new telescopic antenna but radio reception seems ok in most places on FM, and the CD changer works good.

I was told that it used to be an ex embassy car which was given to explain the total lack of history and the UK radio, but mainly japanese instruments.

So the leather is a bit worn, and ripped in one place, and the air shocks are now coils, and the aircon display is barely visible(is that a backlight bulb thing, the number are still visible?), but I love it, and everyone loves the massage rear seats and the leg room, and the rear seat audio controls, especially the built in walkman.

It has done 177k kilometers, so without history I guess I should spring for at least a belt as everything else is so quiet.

Does anyone know of a good indy specialist in the northwest (manchester/liverpool) of england and what will a belt change spring me? Car was cheap, so as long as that is all I pay out for apart from OPEC quantities of petrol, I will keep it a while.

I think the red button if it's like mine puts the gearbox into service mode, basically it just lets you change gears without having to press the brake in

The red button is to allow you to move the gearshift lever without having to put your foot on the foot brake.

Ah OK. I guess it must be permanently engaged then, because apart from the "jolt" when you shift from D to R and back, there is nothing to stop me shifting. I do use the brake when putting into gear just to avoid the clunk when disengaging the parking brake though.

It is just that the car came with a paper manual for a later LS400, and there is no mention of it in there at all that I could see.

Will give them a call. I imagine the LS400 is quite a bit dearer labour wise than the prices I've seen quoted by people who have had 6 cylinder belts changed by them.

You are not alone, I have just picked up what must be an embassy model, rear massage seats, audio and air con controls etc, uk speedo but the odometer is in KM, having trouble with my air suspension, see if I can get some help from the forum.
Wheres the built in walkman?

The red button is the passenger ejector seat, DO NOT PRESS THIS BUTTON.

It also enables the gear selector to be moved from Park with the engine off.

OK, the red button must be on then, because nothing stops it shifting with the engine off.

The Walkman is inside the centre console in the rear seat, where the seat heat buttons are.
