Full Version: How To Fit An Is200 Se/sport Amp Bypass Cable

Having initially had a nightmare trying to get the cable out of the amp, to fit the bypass lead, I thought I'd write a quick guide for others to follow. No pictures I'm afraid, as I didn't think to take any at the time, and I sure ain't doing it again!

1) Remove the glove box by removing the two hinge pins. Then, open the glove box using the catch and it will just drop away.

2) Remove the trim which has a fusebox kick plate in it, from below the glove box. There is a screw near the engine bulkhead, undo that, then pull the trim away from the side of the car. It will probably lift the trim that runs along the door, but it will all go back afterwards.

3) Undo the two 10mm bolts holding the amp in place, then undo the 10mm bolt holding the glove box surround. If you pull the glove box surround towards you, it will give you some much needed room to work in.

4) There are two cable ties holding wiring looms onto the amplifier, one at the top of the amp, one at the back, nearest the engine bay. You need to cut both of these, being very careful not to cut any wires in the loom.

5) You can now either try to get your hand up alongside the fuse box and remove the plug (very difficult), or if you've done everything right and have the freedom of movement in the amplifier, you can pull the amp towards you and into the glove box space. It might need a bit of twisting, but mine popped out quite easily and gave me access to the plugs at the rear.

6) Remove the larger of the two plugs, plug this into your bypass lead, then feed the cable back into the cavity under the amplifier.

7) Refit the amplifier, then secure the bypass lead to the tubular support under the dashboard and airbag using cable ties.

8) Replace door trim/kick panel and glove box!

Hope this helps

Nice little guide mate, could have done with a couple of pictures though wink.gif

Maybe Email it to the seller on ebay to send with the leads? Makes things easier for everyone.

I've got to go back in and tie back the lead, so I might take a few photos at the weekend. Once that's done, I'll pass it on to the eBay seller.

Good guide, just did this tonight myself. But spent an hour trying to connect the lead into wrong place but I wont go into that, when you know what your doing its a simple enough process, just messy but least it only has to be done once.

I found it quite easy on mine it only took me about 15 mins to take the amp out plug in the lead and refit it back in? If i get chance i'll do it again and take some pics biggrin.gif

I'm finding mine really hard, the amp has a bracket that seems to make it too big to pull out. My hands and arms are written off. I removed one cable tie, but havn't yet seen another one to remove. The amp is loose and I can get my hand behind and have tried to remove the cable but the anlge makes it very hard, I can' t seem to press the button in enough and pull the wire and amp apart, the fingers alone just can't do it lol.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, think I'll try again after lunch.

lol, I just found that after joining the fourm. I didnt do the remove the kickboard so there was less room. Done it in like 5 mins after that haha.

I have one question though, most people talk about pulling the large cable out for the bypass lead and then reinstall the amp. Is there anything wrong with removing it completely?? Its just dead weight eight?

Cheers, Jon

I put the amp in the pile with the standard speakers and headunit!
Jon557
Did you actually replace the rear shelf speakers?? I have 2 square 6x9 speakers which are excellent quality but wont fit in the metal rounded holes already there. I don't have plans to change the originals yet, hopefully they will sound good with my new head unit.
