Yup, as title suggests
Since I got rid of my Escort Cosworth and bought the lexus I really am missing the speed, and the track days. SO.....I'm gonna build myself a track day car. I used to own a 1.9 205gti and absolutely loved it, so i'm gonna base the car on that.
The plan is thus..
Get an old 1.9 gti chassis, strip completely - go the weight saving route (remove everything/perspex windows etc. etc.) and i'm going to use the 1.8vvc rover engine that they use in the Lotus Elise racing series (gorgeous engine - my good friend works on them day in day out so has cheap access to the engine and it's parts).
My question really is do any of you know of good places to get good cheap motorsport parts (seats/harnesses/gauges etc.)
Also, if anyone's had direct experience of this, your opinions please.
With very brief calculations, if I can get the 205 down to 700kg (do-able I think) then it will be approx as fast as my Escort Cos was (aiming for 250bhp/tonne).
Traction's going to be the only issue, but around a track that's not going to be too much of a problem, and slicks will go on anyway (so drive shafts and diff will be uprated to account for it).
Any opinions/comments gratefully received
Oh......and if anyone knows of a cheap 1.9 205 going, please let me know (needs to be 1.9 as that had rear discs).
Thanks
Tony
