Full Version: Losing Power When I Turn On Lights

Hi Everyone

Can anyone tell me what may be wrong with my LS400 Beauty (1993, K Reg)

During the day it drives like normally - lots of power ..etc.

But when I turn on the side / headlights (most of the time but not all the time) my dashboard illuminates the [REVERSE] and the [FOG] icons. That I could live with but the car then LOSES POWER WHEN I TRY AND DRIVE IT. I MEAN I HAVE TO APPROACH 5000 RPM (MAKES A HELL OF A LOT OF NOISE) AND I CAN BARELY REACH 35-40MPH. NORMALLY THIS WOULD BE ENOUGH TO PEG IT PAST 100MPH censored.gif .

ANYONE ANY CLUES AS TO WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS. PLEASE REPLY ASASP.

THANKS

Fastlex

Possibly a faulty earth somewhere causing the strange light effects and a draining of power going to the engine

Check out posts on here and LOC USA for weird faults caused by a break in the wiring in the boot hinge,
might be that......

Go straight for the wiring loom that passes over the nearside boot lid hinge, it is wrapped in a black plastic sleeve, carefully open it up and look and feel for damaged wires, repair as required and retape.
Apparently when the cars where built they were not too generous on the wire lenghts and the opening of the boot over time causes breaks to the wire inside the insulation ( having said that it seems to take 14 years to cause a problem!).
