I'm off to MPH 2007 tomorrow and am hoping to find a cheeky little boost gauge. I'm not wanting to spend big bucks, just something that will give me an indication of any boost loss and something that looks good in the cabin.

I just wondered if i need any extra bits and pieces in order to get it fitted? I presume it will come with t-piece and boost pipe, but where does this attach to on the supercharger?? Is it an easy job to do?

Cheers

Yes, even you could fit it mate laugh.gif Just make sure you get all the parts with it.

Re fitting to supercharger not a problem, its been covered on LOC somewhere, think Zee made the post.

Gordon.....you know i'm getting better at this DIY malarky!! tongue.gif Lets face it, couldn't get any worse laugh.gif

i did have a quick search but didn't find anything that answered my question.

All the gauges i've looked at so far come with t-piece, boost pipe and wiring. Is the feed into the cabin easy to do and connection to power feed for illumination etc??
Rob
u need the T piece to plumb into the vac line and the power is only for the internal light - make sure u get one that is low pressure as the SC only goes to .35bar so a gauge thats 2 bar is worthless.
Rob's Lexx
Cheers Rob, i was thinking i needed a low pressure gauge.

Where is the vac line on the charger mate?? The gauge's i'm after have an illuminated screen/dial and need a power feed from 12V source i presume. Is this easy to get without making a big mess, lol
Boergy
Boost gauge from a escort RS? biggrin.gif have only 1bar, but the look is very very blink.gif

yes the 12V is very easy i would take it from the cig lighter as access is very good but depending where u plan to put the gauge there may be a better place to take the power from.. pm me ur email and ill send u a pic of the easiest place to tap into the vac line.

but be aware even if its a 1 bar gauge u may not see if the system is leaking unless its a fairly big leak, but some indication is better than i guess i did find a 0.5 bar gauge but it wasnt designed for a car

LOL i've just installed that one this week. Gonna take it apart though and get a stainless face made for it. was the only 1 bar gauge i could find.

As for fitting, it's a little fiddly getting to the pipe but its not massively hard to do.

And as for the twelve volts, i just attached it to the pot that adjusts the brightness of the lights by you left leg, that was it dims and brightens with your dials.

Ellz
The vac lines a right little fiddle bugga. If you look to the right of your throttle body there are a few rubber hoses down there.

You want the small one that goes from the block to the bottom part of the throttle body (i think it goes to the block, it looks like it just loops back on itself) its about 15 cm long so doesnt give any slack at all and its pretty tough so getting a small t piece in there is also not fun.

You'll know soon enough if you've got the right one as the boost gauge will either move or not at all LOL.

Sorry photos not great but this one i taped into first time around was wrong

You can see theres quite abit of the hosing that goes down the back, its the wrong one.

This on the other hand its the buggar.Sorry about the crap photos but there really no room to even get a camera phone down there.

You can see its crosses the other hose but this one really wont budge its small cramped and darn fiddle but good luck biggrin.gif You'll get there in the end.
sparkystav
Yeah basically at the side of the throttle body you'll see two hoses going to a little bit of equipment, you want the one that goes to the bottom of that equipment.

I got this little beauty fitted to mine biggrin.gif

Rob's Lexx
no joy at mph i'm afraid. the company that were there last year weren't there this year cry.gif

i'm going to look around for a low pressure unit and see what i can find.....they seem to be a rare commodity as i haven't come across one yet!!

will this gauge work fine with the s/c?
Sunpro Gauge

Is it the mechanical one i need and is it easy enough to get a 12V feed for the illumination??

anyone got a good link for a single dashmount or a pilar mount pod holder??
sparkystav
TIM do a single dash mount, but if you search ebay theres loads.

Doesnt matter if its mechanical or not but i'd recommend a mechanical one, unless you go for a high end electronic one, for accuracy.

The lower price electronic ones tend to be less accurate.

As for a 12v feed, i took mine off the dash brightness adjuster so it adjusts with the rest of the ignition lights.

cheers stav. is the gauge easy enough to install??
how do you have yours mounted??
i'm going to get a mechanical one i think and then play aroun wih different bulbs until i find a colour combo i like between the dash and the gauge....
sparkystav
If you do a search theres a few old threads on installing one. The pipe you tee intos a bit of **** cause there's not much slack but its do able.

Ive got mine mounted in a TIM mount between the middle and speedo (similar to where Ellz has a gauge)

I just pulled the bulb out and put a wad of LED's in its place.

Stav
Rob's Lexx
Rob (fluff) was saying theres a dead easy place to take the boost feed from......

yea, might swap for LED's instead possibly, i presume they'll fade ok with the dimmer?
sparkystav
Yeah i remember him saying that, cant remember where though.

Yeah they fade ok with the dimmer, just like the rest of my dash wink.gif

Stav
Rob's Lexx
just this second popped out and brought it.
was an absoloute bargain at $17!!!!

doesn't have a t-piece connecter though.....well none that i can see through the packaging. is that how they all are? the autometer and ultralite gauges all came with the same accessories....
sparkystav
They should have a t piece but you can pick them up off ebay easy enough.

Stav
Rob
also at garden centres
Rob's Lexx
rob, could you message me the details where i can take a boost feed from please mate???

i don't think there is a t-piece, so i'll get hold of one from somewhere. i guess i'll need one that has an end that fits in the tubing supplied with the boost gague and an end that fits in the outlet from the boost pipe???
Rob
hi rob send me ur email again, as its a pdf. u can tap into the pipe near the throttle body but its a bit awkward as the pipe is short. other option is near the bulkhead access is also a bit tricky, its the pipe for the map sensor.

pm sent

cheers mate
Rob
easy 4 the tubing, illumination ill have to dig about as i never wired the bulb in mine.
sparkystav
Can you send me the Pdf about the bulk head fitment for the boost gauge, just interested in where it is.
