Hi I am hoping someone can help my problem goes like this
...When I brake at high speed say 70 to 80mph I get a vibration like no other it shakes the steering wheel up and down the drivers seat and the gear selector backwards and forwards. I mean really shakes. not just a slight wobble but an almighty juddering vibration.
Below speeds of 40MPH theres nothing....Strange!!!!

I have replaced the front and rear pads the old ones were only 6 months old. the discs show no signs of wear or over heating. I have removed the ABS relay, But nothing seems to make any difference. hit the brakes at over 70MPH and "hang on"
Also the tires are all very good and the tracking is ok. Suspension has been checked and no play found in the bushes.

The car is a 300GS with 107,000 miles on the clock and has been kept in very good condition.

Could it be a ABS fault???

Had this on my 1997 Mk2 GS (minimised by very hard braking), but nothing appeared to be amiss.

In the end we (mechanic who services my cars and I) spent a morning going through everything with a fine-tooth comb.

About 3 thou (imperial) run out on the front discs, discs hardly worn, caliper pistons moving OK, caliper sliders moving OK, ball joints OK (recently replaced), control arm bushes OK (recently replaced), shocks not leaking and appeared OK when bounced, track rod ends OK, no movement in the rack bushes.

There was a slightly odd wear pattern on the discs, so in view of that and the disc run out, we replaced the discs and pads after meticulously cleaning the face of the hub.

So far, problem solved (although that's probably jinxed it ).

I noticed the disc is not fastened to the hub ...is this right??

Yes, the wheel and wheel nuts hold the disc to the hub, when refitting, make sure the correct torque setting s used and the bolts are tightened in the correct order

I've got the exact same problem, and I've already done brand new discs and pads. It's still there! argh! only over 70mph as you say, and under light to medium braking and then gone below 60mph totally.

I've been advised by Lexus mechanic that it may be one of the arms (as it's multilink not double wishbone there's loads of arms) and/or ball joints. Best bet recommended to me was the arms first as they're cheaper, but it's still big bucks. Any thoughts guys?

Would the wheel bolt torque make a difference *immediately* on brand new discs and pads?
