Hi and good evening

Well I got my new IS in the end after loosing our sapphire blue one joining the M40
We got a 99 Astral Black, Black leather n suede interior and Nav Pack with 75K

My partner Jacki and I have had it about 5 weeks but every day since its either been raining or I've been at work so its still due some TLC. Well today Jacki went to take out the car, and tried to start it but the ignition barrel will not turn its as if the key's are incorrect or the steering lock was jammed on ??

Well I spent this evening from 3pm this afternoon trying numerous ways of teasing it into turning, with combinations of jigaling the steering wheel and the key in the barrel and jacking up the car at the front to take the weight off maybe assisting its release but nothing the key will not turn in the barrel !!! I have ensured its fully in, and tried to my witts end

Have any of you good LOC members out there any ideas ??? Please

Regards

TimM

had same problem a while back- defo new ignition barrel- quite common apparently. hope ya have original keys. my locks had been changed with no records kept- had to buy complete lock kit rather than just a barrel. on the bright side tho was a doddle to fit as you'll see.

I think I have orig key's both have boot lock on them. If that means anything and the numbers too

who do I approach for a new barrel. A Lexus main dealer ?

i used lexus but it has been said on here that there are specialists about that can help out.
i had both keys also but no codes. ya may be ok hopefully. i waited 2 days for delivery of barrel. checked my key in the barrel when i picked it up but didnt work thats how i knew the locks had been changed at some point and couldnt trace where. lexus said they couldnt make a barrel to a key so hence new lock set. barrel was about 35ish and lock kit 180ish. kit includes 3 new keys.

Thanks for your advice I best start looking for a locks company if all else fails I'll goto Lexus but I will try the cheaper option first

Thanks

Hi I've been all over checking this out, of to the US IS site and ended back here LOL and I found another of Rob's posts about using WD40 and a gentle tap.

So I think I'll give this a go tomorrow and see how I get on.

If not I'll pull the barrel out and see if I can do anything with that.

I am also looking for a sport grill are there any in the classifieds section??.

I can see a full membership coming on soon......

I used to have a sport pack on my IS that I broke and I watched them drag it away off my drive cry.gif

I really could do with a few parts to make the new one feel like mine.

hi Tim,

u can order a barrel only from the dealer around £70 - 80 i think or a new lock set for about £140 changing all the locks is easy apart from the drivers door which takes some time.

to remove the barrel is simple as u would have read. let me know if u need some advice.

Hi Rob

I managed to sort it, well its worked at the moment.........

I used the gentle hammer taps and the WD40 and its free and working ok, if it does become a pain again I'll see about replacing it for a new one but with Christmas n all at the moment I hope it will last

Thanks for you posts Rob, its with that knowledge that I knew there was another way other than off to the main dealer to pay through the nose.... LOL

Cheers

water disperser works for a while but you'll regret it when ya get stuck like i did. key in ignition, couldnt start, couldn't remove key. therefore could'nt lock car. its all to do with the toyota thing of pushing the key in before you take it out. loc members get discount at most dealers!
