Rob's Lexx
Hi all.

I'm hoping to fit these TTE/Eibach lowering springs on Saturday.

Can anyone post the link to the how to fitting guide as i can't find it in the workshop section (even though i've seen it before unsure.gif )

Also, is there anything to be extra careful about or anything to do in advance (e/g WD40 etc etc)??

Cheers

Rob

cheers.

out of interest, i've heard that when fitting springs and then driving for the 1st time, there may be 4 loud clunks from the springs setting in place.....

is this normal??

Never heard of that before Rob when i did my springs i never got any noise from them when first fitted or after? but then i got some TTE Coilovers and there great biggrin.gif

Are you fitting them matey or you got someone doing them for you?? unsure.gif
Rob's Lexx
me and my neighbour mate. he's a mechanic so got the spring compressor etc etc.

he should know what he's doing so i'll just provide and muscle work....lol.

just getting the car ready for a TTE bumper mate msn-wink.gif shutup.gif whistling.gif
aztecbandit1
1 thing i did with mine Rob was when you start doing it is to give the top centre nut a turn on each strut before you take the shocks off the car as there quite tight and a couple of mine where very tight and a pain to undo when off the car, But dont undo them all the way though as they hold the struts together just loosen them a bit to make it easier to undo when you get them off the car as i had to put mine in a vice to hold them after they were removed? Good luck with them matey biggrin.gif

Oh and the TTE bumper is ready mate, i test fitted the nice new tte mesh today and looks very good biggrin.gif i should of put it on when i had it fitted as it looks so much better than the mesh i fitted? ohmy.gif
TigerFish
One thing I found when I did my GS300 front springs was that none of the ball joint splitters I had were big enough to go around the actual stud end of the ball joint. They are a pretty hefty size. A right censored.gif
Rob's Lexx
right, some good advice there guys.

I guess this clunking noise i've heard about could well be the springs seating into position, but sure this can be avoided by alligning them correctly in the 1st place??

@ Chris.....you have pm matey msn-wink.gif

Mine are going on next week woohoo, along with some nice TTE roll bars

Get it jacked up and wheel off, bolts loosened etc?

That's a shame, Rob. Hope the job's soon done.
Rob's Lexx
Got the front 2 sorted and am sorting the rear two in the morning.

all i can say so far is that the difference at the front is huge already!!! it just looks so much better and they haven't even settled yet!!
aztecbandit1
On my way home i thought: "i could of done the rears while i was there" msn-wink.gif Sorry about leaving some scrape marks on the path outside your house matey think my cars a bit low laugh.gif Will look good when there all on, its suprising how high it was on the standard springs? biggrin.gif
Rob's Lexx
lol, don't worry bout the scrape marks mate, feel more sorry for ur undercarriage, lol!!

it was amazing how much better it looked straight away wasn't it?!?! can't wait to sort the rest out tomorrow!!

thanks for popping round mate. really good of you. i'll be updating my car thread tomorrow with pics of both springs and my latest purchase msn-wink.gif msn-wink.gif whistling.gif whistling.gif cool.gif biggrin.gif
aztecbandit1
It saved you having to come and pic it up mate and i was bored biggrin.gif cant wait to see the pics of them fitted as going by how the front looked it'll look very good cool.gif I'm going to have a look under my car tomorrow to see where its catching the road as it seemed to be in the middle of the car by the marks it left on the path and i thought it was the exhaust on the drivers side so it looks like it could be the diff which wont be very good as it catches now and again on the road when i'm driving?? huh.gif

edit : just thought Rob have they dragged that A class out of the wall yet? laugh.gif laugh.gif

When i fitted my Tein springs i thought they would settle but i cant say i have noticed any difference since i fitted them mate and thats been 6 months so i wouldnt expect it to drop much more if any at all

apparently the eibachs do settle out more over a couple of weeks, and the drop is lower than the tein s tech springs (is that what u have fella?? or you got coilovers??)

I have the tein s tech i think they were supposed to be 35mm on the front and 23mm on the rear but the back still sits a fraction lower and i thought the front would drop a bit but never has
Unregistered_User
I keep reiterating this point about the S.Techs though, they are supposedly not meant to have a decent height drop, but I have to say that it really has made a cracking difference on mine. The back end sits perfectly with the wheel and the front just right. I was very pleased in all honesty smile.gif

Hope you get the rears sorted out today mate and I'm looking forward to seeing the finalised pictures!
Well done as well so far!

Jamie
Rob's Lexx
Well, they're all fitted and the car looks great with its more aggressive stance.

The biggest PITA was removing all those carpet clips in the boot!! censored.gif whistling.gif

Car sits SOOOO much better and after a 'casual' whistling.gif test drive, its immediately obvious how much better it handles. Body roll is radically reduced and it goes exactly where i want it. The weather isn't the best at the minute, so summer should be fun, but it really is a cracking mod IMHO.

The front is settling nicely (probably due to engine weight) and the back should hopefully catch up soon.

I think i'll give it till i return from the states beginning of Feb and then get the geo adjusted accordingly.

Pics to follow soon.
aztecbandit1
Very good matey look forward to seeing it again and can you get on your drive ok?? laugh.gif need to get my geo done asap as its starting to eat the rear tyres on mine now ohmy.gif
Rob's Lexx
yep, get on the drive fine.....unlike some laugh.gif whistling.gif whistling.gif

Rob's Lexx
A couple of pics. Bear in mind they will settle out over the next couple of weeks, especially the rear.

Tis a huge improvement, not only the look, but the handling is spot on!!
chrisis200
See to me the front looks fine but the back has always been the problem an looks no differnt I know u say it needs to settle but still... as long as ur happy tis ur money of course lol
spikes
im sure they will drop quite a lot,how many miles have you done on this set up?
take a photo in 100 miles and you will see a big difference. smile.gif
Rob's Lexx
the back's dropped circa 10mm since they were fitted (measured).

i've driven about 5 miles tops since they were on. I;ve seen a fair few TTE lowered cars and i know for a fact they will settle out nicely.

will get some pics after i've driven it a little more msn-wink.gif

You'll notice it over the next few months matey and you'll be throwing it round islands at silly speeds it does look better than it did yesterday as i could get my head inside the rear wheel arch whistling.gif looks like someones left some scratches on the path outside your house Rob ("why does petrol weigh so much")laugh.gif blush.gif
