well i managed to get some arms from the dealer nd changed them this afternoon but i must have caught the ABS cable on one side because now each time the speed drops below 20kmh when braking the abs triggers 
. using OBD doesnt show anything and using the paper clip method on the diagnostics port doesnt show a fault..... just the normal "no fault light" bit hacked off as was very very careful... looks like it a trip to the dealers to have the proper machine hooked up. and cable are about £115 each!!!!
