hi i have an altezza RS200 which has been lowered !
i would like to have this back at a standard ride height.
so those who want their IS lowered i would be willing to swap springs !
and shocks perhaps as this would be easier to do.
My car has done less than 60k miles so the springs have done less
Would be looking to swap for a suspension that had done similar of less !
Think i would be best for both parties to road test each other's cars to see that the suspension is what's is desired before the swap

ye altezza is 15mm lower i think but that looks very low in them pics. my mate has Tein lowering springs on his and no where near that low. are you sure there not coilovers? What make are they?
waynejordan02
Jan 8 2008, 04:16 PM
might be to low for my drive after looking at the pic closely
Rikos
Jan 8 2008, 04:38 PM
So how low would it make an IS sport?
boddamloon
Jan 8 2008, 04:52 PM
later sports were already 15mm lower
merlin 99
Jan 8 2008, 05:13 PM
i have no idea what springs they are !
the ride is sporty but still has the Lexus comfort.
the only reason i want to raise it is cos i don't like the look of it at the mo.
I have been offered a free set of shocks and springs to which im going to pick up tonight
But will be still willing to swap my lowered ones depending on the condition of the standard ones.
But this just me options and chance to try out the standard IS setup !
Didn’t realise that the RS was lower than the IS
So if anyone with a set of RS spring out there wanting to swap

Theses springs will make the IS sit exactly the same as my RS as the ride height is controlled by the springs

I dont mind the way mine looks now but just thinking of the handling, does it make much difference?
merlin 99
Jan 8 2008, 05:24 PM
Can't comment on what difference it makes as I have nothing to compare it to !
I know my car does feel very precise and responsive !
There is no dive as you turn in and the front end will respond quickly !
Rob's Lexx
Jan 8 2008, 05:30 PM
rik, the handling is MILES better with lowering springs on. its much more planted mate!
as for the springs in question, i really don't think its just lowering springs. that sits way way lower than any spring lowered IS i have seen. its almost as low as chris (aztecbandit's) IS and he has his on coilovers.
mine, with the TTE springs sits lower, but its by no means as low as that....
merlin 99
Jan 8 2008, 05:37 PM
it looks like a standard apart from springs to me !
defiantly not coilovers !
please don’t get me wrong I'm not arguing !!!
if you guys can shed light on what I have got under there then
fantastic as i have no standard to compare it all to !
i shall try and take some pictures of what's under there and post them tomorrow

Jan 8 2008, 05:41 PM
IMO, if you had lowering springs fitted, then to go that low you would have had to have changed the shocks.
i think its coilovers. get the car jacked up and take some pics that way - will be much easier.

what year is your car rod?? as the later models (post 2001) had a 15 mm drop, so that would make yours look lower than a pre 2001 lowered on the same springs would it not??

Jan 8 2008, 06:36 PM
I think when they go on about the drop it is from a standard. If you bought 15mm lowering springs for your Lex which happened to be a later sport there would be no difference if you know what i mean. I just bought is200 springs they were not for a sport or nothing

This is standard springs and wheels

and lowered after 3 months with 18s fitted
corsavandal
Jan 8 2008, 07:02 PM
what's it lowered by/with Bod?
I always thought more than 40mm and coilovers would be needed, but 40mm on the standard shocks would be fine? Can anyone confirm??
would you consider selling Merlin??
boddamloon
Jan 8 2008, 07:07 PM
its lowered tein s tech springs 35mm on front and 23mm on rear. if you went above 40mm it will start to get bouncy and the handling will be crap
corsavandal
Jan 8 2008, 07:09 PM
just springs then!?
Rob's Lexx
Jan 8 2008, 07:18 PM
ahh ok matey. i think the 18's help fill the arches a bit more too.
when u say 3 months....is that how long you had the springs on before the pic was taken? just wanna get a feel for how long mine will take to settle at their final resting point
boddamloon
Jan 8 2008, 07:19 PM
Yes but as i said before to you Rob the teins didnt drop much if at all. I expected mine to sit a little lower on the front opposed to the rear
boddamloon
Jan 8 2008, 07:21 PM
Rob if you look here you will see pics of car with 18s with standard springs
Rob's Lexx
Jan 8 2008, 07:25 PM
i agree matey, look spot on at the back IMO. probably about the same as mine if not a touch lower. but i've only had mine on a week or so, so hoping they will drop a little more (the TTE springs do this AFAIK).
looks good anyway mate, and the main thing is i bet the handling i a lot better?!?!
boddamloon
Jan 8 2008, 07:29 PM
Yes the handling is quite tight but its not as good as coil-overs

no i know its not mate, but its catch 22 really. where i live, can't be doing with the stiffer ride. plus you have added expense of coilovers. springs are a VERY good compromise though...
merlin 99
Jan 9 2008, 03:48 PM
as i said anyone wishing to try the ride are more than welcome to come and have a ride !
i find it still comfortable and love the precise handling don't find it bouncy !
it's a much better ride than my standard teggi DC2 (don't go round corners like it tho)
boddamloon the pic of the car on standard suspension is that a 2000 model sport ?
when did the ones with the 15mm lower suspension come out ?
and how does that compare to the altezza standard set up ?
boddamloon
Jan 9 2008, 04:19 PM
Cant comment on the Tezza but yes mine was a 2000 sport and i think mine was 10mm lower and 2001 was 15mm lower but im not that sure

Take a close up picture of the top mount of the shock from in the engine bay, if its any colouyr other than black usually a sign of coilovers.
heres a pic of stndard shocks and springs of an RS

All i can make out is that they are not coilovers, springs dont look anything other than standard, cant really make out from all the dirt on them though. maybe a jet wash to the arches and shocks will reveal the make of the springs,(if you dont already know that) Don't mean to sound bad but another possible thought is the springs could have been cut and put back on
boddamloon
Jan 10 2008, 12:20 AM
But then if they had been cut it would handle really poor. We used to do this when we were younger on old cars and though it made them look better it just seem to make it bounce so i think he would know if they had been done and he has desribed the ride

Didn’t think they were coilovers but it would have been nice if they were

Well i hope they haven't been cut !
it don't feel like it has cos the back end does still feel good and supple.
Some of the back roads in deepest darkest Suffolk are ***** !!

they are my old ones 100% working, just upgraded to coilovers. trying to sell my car so if i sell it as is, the old shocks will be up for sale, only problem is they are really heavy and I'd say posting them from Ireland to UK would be EXPENSIVE!

just wondering how much lower the springs will make the car.

Can anyone confirm some part numbers for me
Front shocks 48510-53020 HD3
Rear shocks 48530-53010 HD3
Ate these standard altezza shocks cost they don’t have the same part numbers as the Lexus ones !!!
