hi all, am not able to use my cd player in my is200 as after i have selected cd it shows "ERROR 3" on the display and wont do anything? does anyone know of a way to cure this problem??? had a recent clutch fitted at a lexus dealer and asked the service manager to have it looked at but he forgot to put it on the job card so didnt get done. thanks Adrian

Do a search for "ERR3" and you will see a million posts on this - bottom line is that your CD is dead.

There are some posts on possible fixes - but they only work for some very lucky few.

You choices for repairing are as follows:-

1) - get it fixed with dealer: they sent off headunit to another company (who you can contact direct - info in one of the ERR3 posts) and after 10 days or more they will fix it for (I think) £250 odd (I could be wrong on this but I know it's expensive).

2) get a replacement one off ebay and fit it yourself. - Note: not all IS stereos are the same look for the code on the front of it above the tape deck and get one with the same code.

3) Install an aftermarket headunit - many posts on how to do this - it's not entirely straightforward as you need a special cable to bypass the amp.

4) Get the Gromaudio adaptor and use an ipod controlled through the headunit rather than CD's. Info here. - this is what i went for.


It's a very common fault with the IS stereo - so bear in mind that any repaired or replaced headunit will probably do the same error again at sometime in its life.

How old is your car ? cd player has 5 yrs warranty
