Well, got pulled earlier because my plates were not legal.
anyways, i have the fixed penalty of £30 so will sort that in the morning, but the chap said that the DVLA could revoke my registration mark and revert it back to the original......
now, how likely is this to happen, or is it more for a repeat offence kinda situation.
and before anyone says it, yea i know i'm a naughty boy

If you repeat offend they will give you a producer where you have to pay to take it to an MOT test station with legal plates, then they can fine you £1000 and take the plate away. It's not worth taking the chance anymore ( in my opinion ).

You have to be reported on more than one occasion.
So, if you get stopped and reported for it again (assumng this was your first offence) that's enough for DVLA to revoke your number plate.
If it's a cherished plate, you will get the old plate back.
If it's the normal plate anyway, you will get a Q registered plate ;-)

its a personalised number plate and this is the 1st time i've been pulled for it.
the guy took a pic of the plate and said that documentation and the photo evidence would go to dvla and they would be in touch?!
so i take it as loing as i sort them how they should be then i won't have any hassle from DVLA or the police for that matter??

That's interesting. I thought Q plates were reserved for kit cars or non production one offs.

illegally spaced and a very slight elongation of one of the digits.
BTW, are logo's on the left hand side of the plate legal? and word's written small at the bottom in the border??

Your only allowed your countries flag or the euro stars on the side of the plate,
at the bottom your technically ment to have the name of the plate maker.

so i can't have my name say, or anything else for that matter at the bottom of the plate?? seems ludicrous to me!
i can't understand why that is so.

Correct.
A postcode and contact number will suffice.

aztecbandit1

Rob's had quite a big space between the first letter and the last letter so it spelled his name in the middle? just think they were bored as there are loads of cars around here with worse ones on there cars and some you cant even read?

Mines not Exactly spaced right either, but i've kept all the lettering and everything else legal to try to ward them off.

yea, just think they fancied pulling me as the streets were pretty quiet.
i understand the fact that there are rules etc, but the officer obviously knew what the plate read, so don't understand why spacing is really that much of an issue (as long as its legible).
as for what can be written at the bottom of the plate, well that just seems ridiculous. why on this earth are you not allowed to have your name, football cluyb etc etc in tiny writing. what difference does that make to the actual registration mark of the car??!!
and the same goes for the logo motif, why a lexus logo isn't permitted, say, is similarly bizarre.
it just seems so petty in reality.
i also read that all number plates must be secured with bolts/screws and adhesives are not permitted......now thats an interesting one if correct.

Well, you must have been behaving yourself & the rest of your car must have been OK if all they could pick fault with was your plate, Rob. Hope it’s all sorted soon.

I have a private plat to go on mine, but doing it after I have been to the Nurburgring.
I have had 2 sets of plates made up, both with Legal sized lettering , but 1 with set
with slightly naughty spacing, the other completely legal in every respect. The spacing
is quite subtle tho so hopefully I should be ok.

just been told by a local motorfactor that having something printed at the bottom of the plate on the banner is ok.....
i'm not sure it is, has anyone got this on their car and had any problems??

Mine have the Lexus logo on the left (where a flag would go).
If they get arsey I'll just scribe it, snap it off along the scribe mark and stick it down alongside, butting neatly up to, but not forming part of, the numberplate.

Its just a reflective sticker
That one falls short of the reg thats states the plate must conform to British standards, there are no stick on plates that meet the BS at the mo.
As for the flag/logos you get on the side, I would have thought it could be argued that the logo is out of the area of the plate, as long as the 11mm spacing between the letters and the margin is mainted, It would be difficult for them to dispute that. (as long as the reflective area does not sorround the logo.)

The PDF guide linked on the 1st page states:
ReflectivityThe British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the followinginformation: -
- The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d)
- The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or componentsupplier. (The company who actually make the number plate.)
- The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean acompany whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.)
- A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters areoptional additions.
- There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate.
Best way to get away with that is get a plate sorround that allows somthing to added to it.

half the time i dont think the police know whats what.
i have a plate on my car which is an irish number plate and contains the letter I. as in FIL. i have been pulled many times and told its cant be a 1 (one). a 1 (one) a plate as you all know is just a line. as the letter I was never issed in uk no one can make me a plate with an I in it. i currently have 2 odd plates on my car the front has 1 (one) and the back has !1(one) with a carefully painted dot on it making it into a lower case I so the real plate reads FiL.
As an mot tester, when i get stopped now, i show my VOSA i.d. card and ask the officer which plate he would prefer.
strangley enough i never had a ticket since having my VOSA i.d. card. after all whats the point in making me take my car to an mot testing station when i work at one
