This is the latest info on JAE 2008, straight from the JAE forums. As more info is recieved it will be posted here :-
Firstly, we would like to thank you all for being so patient in waiting for a venue and date to be confirmed. We're really pleased to see that so many people agree that it’s right to get the venue right and find a great place to host JAE, rather than just rush to a decision. And to everyone who researched venues, sent in suggestions and did lot of legwork thank you very much.
Traditionally JAE has always been the start of the Summer Holidays and, despite thunder storms, floods and even a hurricane we have stuck to that date and accommodated TOTB by moving forward. Looking at the weather (this is the UK after all!) maybe July is never the right time? But we wanted it to be at a time when as many people could find the time and also when the whole family could come along – if they wanted! So, we have after much consideration agreed to move it to the last weekend of August. Not only is this better weather but its still school holiday time and should give us a much better event to round off the Summer. In addition to moving to the weekend of 29-31 August the event just got bigger and is now 3 DAYS of JAE!!! Thursday is now set up day and the activities start in earnest on Friday morning for those that wish to make it a full weekend away. We hope you like it!
JAE at Billing was fine at that time but JAE out-grew the location which is when we moved to Peterborough. This was a step in the right direction as it gave us a much bigger venue to allow in all the clubs who wanted to come to JAE but in moving to Peterborough we lost some of what made JAE so special so the task was on to find the perfect venue which would give the sparkle back to JAE and worked on the overall atmosphere of the event which we all know makes it different from any other in the year.
We have now found JAE's new permanent home and confirmed the venue and dates for the next 3 years.
JAE's new permanent home for 2008 and beyond will be at Mersea Island which just outside Colchester.
The show venue is over 60 acres and has a huge amount of potential for us, already catering for club and enthusiast shows all year round and with some amazing facilities on site - we're amazed we managed to miss it previously as its perfect for JAE! I will post up some pictures tomorrow of things to expect at the new location but, for now, let me just share with you SOME what we have to offer at JAE's new home:
Loads of parking on a totally secure site
Full Bar and off- sales
Japanese themed bar and special hot and cold SAKE bar
Large function room with permanent DJ facilities and stage
Outdoor hard standing marquee for live bands
Indoor trade area as well as outdoor pitches
Speedboat with inflatable banana ride experiences from the Beach
Yes, you read right - a beach!! - which is part of the site
Log cabins for families and groups with electric and heating as well as the vast camping areas as usual
Various planned activities such as inter-club Its-a-Knockout competitions ( inc 5 a side football ), some themed in Japanese endurance- Takeshi's Castle style!!
Full food village as well as a huge canteen which will be providing not only dinner for those who grow tired of junk food but also each morning the canteen will provide full English breakfasts, served up in true dinner-lady style - Previously an important detail which was missing from JAE for the morning after a night socialising
….. but best of all, the venue is really quiet and in the middle of nowhere so we can make as much noise as we like and go on for as long as we like. But if you’re worried about too much noise we have an area completely set aside as a quiet camping for those who may have families etc as the site is designed to cater for all, making it even more family friendly in certain parts of the site to ensure everyone has a great time.
I hope you'll join us in the excitement that the new date and venue will bring to JAE. It’s going to be just like the old days…………only better, longer and so much more to do....and by the beach!!!
More specific details will follow, for now, be safe in the knowledge we're back on track and firing on all cylinders better than ever before....we're now running on Iridium plugs!!!
See you there!
John

C'mon there must be more members wanting to attend JAE this year, it will be as good as we all make it, and the venue sounds as if it should be the best yet, we have thousands of members, dont just sit behind your screen, come out and meet your fellow Lexus club members, bring the family along, and have a great weekend. You need to get your names down.

I have been to Mersea Island today to have a look at the Site where JAE will be taking place, with the organisors and representatives from clubs who will also be attending. Firstly i was very surprised to see, despite all the rain we have had, how solid the ground was, there was a few small puddles, but nothing like i expected. We were given an overview of what to expect from the event and the new location. Also there are 2 new members of the organisation team, they organise the Time attack events and the EDC events , so have a lot of experiance. Briefly the idea is to have a weekend of fun, where everyone can get together, and mix between clubs, there is going to be a lot of activities where clubs can compete against each other, for example, there is a Takeshi Castle type its a knockout competition, tug of war, eating competition and many others. Also there will be banana boat rides in the sea, the beach is private and belongs to the site, and is a sandy beach, so if we want a beach party one night... There is a dining room, which will be serving cooked breakfasts every morning, a licensed bar, where there will be a disco and live band in the evenings.and the firework display on sat night There is a plenty going on, check out the JAE site HERE And you can see all the info, any other questions, let me know, i will try and answer them for you, if not i will find out.

As always at JAE, There is best car club award, so shall we go for it, see info below from the JAE forum.
So how do we choose the Best Car Club? Well, first of all if I told you that, it would change the competition, but let's just say there is a lot of opportunity for all clubs, big and small, to win this competition. In the past large clubs like Supras and Subarus have won it as have small clubs like Club delica, it's all about making the best of what you've got!
Judging takes place all day on Saturday and every year we have different judges. You wont know who they are because they don't carry around clipboards, they just 'go for a wander' and look at the displays. I can tell you however that they look at the way the cars are presented, whether there are too many tents (hopefully reserving camping areas this year will help), litter and general tidiness, the attitude of the people (yep, you'd better get the BBQ going and bribe the would be judges) and of course just how genuinely friendly everyone is.
This year the Best Car Club award, along with all the others, will be presented on Saturday night in the main hall where the disco will be held. Traditionally the previous winners are on hand to present the trophy but Tom from the Mkiv Supras wont be there this year so we'll have to get someone else from his club to help.
So, remember; anyone can win! Just enjoy yourself

Info just released
Mersea have a 'No Glass' policy on site.
This means you are not allowed to bring any glass bottles on site whatsoever.
The staff on the gate will be checking vehicles for glass. If you have some with you, you will have to give it up should you bring some with you accidently so please bring only plastic cartons/bottles on site.
Mersea is used all year round by children as an activity centre and therefore broken glass on the fields etc is dangerous not only to those attending JAE but a unsuspecting child who may find a broken bottle when playing in the field and getting hurt
So cans/plastic bottles only please there is full recycling facilities available on site for plastic, metal & paper
BBQ's
All bbq's including disposables need to be raised off of the ground
& I know it sounds silly but........please ensure that they are out & cold before disposing of them.

And here's another ......
Just a quick heads-up about the inflatable banana speed boat rides which occur just off the beach on Saturday of the event, if you plan to have a go you need to be aware of one thing :
Bring old shoes to wear, you MUST have shoes on to get on the boat/get wet
Oh and apparently it's a good idea to hold your nose when/if you fall off

Hi Guys.
Although not a Lexus owner (yet) I am a member of Civiclife. SSB refers to the colour (Honda Super Sonic Blue). We have 40 cars on our stand this year, so not massive. Most members are young as you would expect for the Honda craze, but are all passionate about the scene. Unlike most of the Civic crew I am not so young (only by name). I'm looking forward to being close the Lexus OC. I desperately want to move away from the hot hatches and into large executive cars. Perhaps some LOC members may be able to show me around a GS300 as this is my planed purchase.
See you all there.
