Hi guys long time, since I sold my Altezzer RS200 in december I have not been right. Ask Goldie who is a member how long it took before I let him have the car.

Anyway it was forthe Mrs, she wanted a new house and we got it now so within the next couple of months will be looking a new car. I was thinking of getting the IS20 againg or maybe going for the civic type-r!
What do you guys think, because I can't make up my mind at the moment
Steve
is200

hope that helps :D
ifraz
Maybe you should set up a poll asking this question.

I wonder what the majority will say...  :whistling:

My vote would be IS200 :P
Mitch
i got an IS200 and love it to bits

i driven a type R civic though, and they are nice, much quicker than the IS, like a mini rocket. the gears look very odd placed where they are but they are good to use.

its a different league to the IS though, IS is more luxury i thinks but a great drive if u dnt mind the slow acceleration.
the civic is great acceleration and the one i drove was fairly basic inside. looks nice though and the engine is very nice.

Looks = Lexus is200 B)
Performance = Type R :whistling:
Parthiban
its gotta be the lexus

the civic may be quicker, but loses out on everything else

looks, luxury, equipment - list is endless

the question is, do you really want to drive around in a mini-mpv like sports hatch???

when you could have a lexus! :D
Zee007
Of course - if you want the best of both worlds, then go for an IS300 or another Altezza...... luxury AND performance...... B)
mudzs
Was just wondering what is the price difference between the two i would imagine the lexus to be a bit dearer.
GRiM
Yup IS200 is a few grand dearer.

My Missus says the new Honda Civic Type R looks like a Yaris...

Her words not mine, but my neighbour in his Type -R wasn't impressed....

WOMEN! :duh:

I have a budget of around £13000. what I dont want togo through is all the hassle I went through with my Altezza by fitting Lexus rear parking sensors, Lexus 18" alloys, TTE Front bumper, TDI HKS Induction kit, lexus exhaust trim, green pads all round! I would love another IS 200 donelike my old Altezzer. As I remember all that effort and money that went into my Altezzer and i just don't have that kind of cash to invest in it. Imust say I have not driven a civic type-r yet but I have booked a test drive.
Another thing, th cvic type-r is not as common as an Is200. They are all over the place. When I got my Altezzer last year January, I got so many looks cause it was not as common then and mine was one of the first round my area, but I still love them every single one I see, especially is Platinum silve one.
The Mrs wants a BMW 3Series coupe, but I don't really like them. Decision, decision what do I do! <_<
DaveEllen
Get an IS200 and stijk a supercharger to it.............nuff said :yahoo: :yahoo:

Oh..........buy extra pants :whistling:

budget for extra tyres......... :whistling:

& teeth whitener as u will be grinning all the time :hehe:
Ste355
I looked at the Type-R before buying my Lexus.
It's a nice car but very basic.
I think I made the right choice :)
Bobski
How about a nice TURNIP :hehe:
Lard
Type R much quicker off the mark but got eaten up by judicious use of long legs of IS200 in my last 'experience' on the Mway. (or type R driver chicken.)

Having just traded the old '200 for a '300.... I'd still go for any Lexus over the Type-R. Guy at work has a silver Type-R which looks pretty tasty and goes like stink. But having had dealings with the local Honda dealer on two separate occasions (like I asked for a test drive of the S2000, & they couldn't even be @rsed to arrange it for me!), I wouldn't go near a Honda now for that reason alone. Needless to say, the local Lexus dealership is brill' :) :)

Yeah I know what you mean mate Toyota/Lexus Dealership in Brixton were quite good. Did most of the work on my Altezzer last year at reasonable prices.

Oojoni,

did I see Lexus delaership in Brixtion on your thread? This is news to me unless your meant Bromley?

Anyway, I will go for another Altezza. It has more power than the Typre R and has the luxury of the IS. You can get them already modified. I love thier bodykits.

Go for the IS300 and have the best of both worlds :D
Honda is a nice motor but it's not a Lexus :whistling:

Depends what you are after really. I test drove the Type-R Civic a little while ago and I was impressed with it - certainly the acceleration.

If I was in the market for a cheaper (to buy) car then I'd go for the Civic. However, I think it's probably a class lower that the IS200, I don't really think they are on a par. If you've got the money to spend, go for a Lexus. If you don't want to spend out that much, then you can't go wrong with the Civic for the money

At the moment i am in the lucky position of owning both (trying to sell IS200). I needed something cheaper to fund my house purchase.

The Type-R is much quicker than the IS (and Altezza) 0-60 in 6.3 seconds! And does 1/4 mile in about 15 secs. There is no way the IS200 could keep up in a race.....but they are different types of car.

One is a hot (very) Hatch and the other is a luxury saloon. The Type-R has been lightened and doesn't have the toys but makes up for it in sheer driving enjoyment.

I have uprated the stereo in the Type-R and added tints to the windows and alloy kick plates, pedals too. I think it is a wicked little motor and gets approving looks all the time (same as the IS). But its horses for courses, you can't really compare the two as they are so different.

maybe the Type R will outsprint the Altezza in a 0-60 race cos it,s lighter, but that,s where it ends, I think. On a longer Mway race, the Type R wouldn,t match the Altezza.

Yeah, but in the Type-R you wouldn't even be able to hear the stereo... while in the Lexus, you'd still be able to hear your watch ticking! ;) :P
Jimmy Ten Toes
Good point, but you would be able to hear the wicked noise of the fantastic engine. the noise when the VTEC kicks in is amazing. Each to their own......different types of car!

Exactly and in a nutshell that is the decision you have to make a Hot Hatch or a Luxury Saloon

:backofnet:
Mitch
or dont make the desicion and have both- get the IS and do something like what Si' has done and have the performance of the Type R wit Lexus luxury :whistling:
Jimmy Ten Toes
Not for £12500 though, unfortunately.
Zee007
I have to admit, after seeing the Type R's at Gaydon yesterday, it is very, very tempting. They are very quick standard, very tuneable and look the dogs gonads. And if you don't want a Civic and want a bigger car, they have Integras and Accords too.....
Wallace
A works colleague has a Type-R and he says he will be lucky to get 10k from a set of front tyres :yahoo: also says he has to creep over "sleeping policemen" and chevrons make it twitch all over the place
Jimmy Ten Toes
Its a firmer ride granted but handles amazingly. Very little body role. It is a Type-R (racing) after all. The standard tyres aren't the best (Bridgestone Re40's) but alot of people are changing to Toyo Proxes and the wear and tramlining are much better.

Personally I can't knock them, love the performance!! drove the Lexus at the weekend after a few weeks away and it felt like it was going backwards, couldn't beleive how slow it felt after driving the CTR for a while.

:D

If it's the Type-R vs. a vanilla IS200, then how about a few basic questions...

Q. What sort of roads do you drive on?
A. Twisty country lanes - Get the Type-R
A. Dual carriageways & motorways, crammed with gatso's - Get the Lex :o

Q. What sort of journeys do you do?
A. Lots of shorts hacks - Get the Type-R
A. Over an hours driving a day - Get the Lex B)

Q. What do you want others to think?
A. Wow, I bet that's fun to drive - Get the Type-R
A. There's someone with class - Get the Lex ;)

Q. What do you enjoy most about driving?
A. Speeeeeed.... & blitzing the other guy - Get the Type-R
A. What other guy? - Get the Lex
UltraViolet
I think all the answers are wrong.

Okay - bit sweeping ...... some have good valid points.

BUT - if you like both ..... why not get 'both' - the performance of a Civic Type R, with the practicality, space and more subtle styling of the IS ..... for £12.5k ........ Accord Type R

Seems to be the natural choice if you are drawn to both vehicles, as this offers most of what both of these offer - and comes in at your budget.

As for the dealers - depends on your dealer.

Lexus dealer I used first of all was not good...... my car went back sooooo many times. I was not a happy bunny. Last service, different Lexus dealer - different class!
Same applies to Honda dealers - good ones, and bad ones.

Smart-*****!!! :D
Fever
Yeah Zee....getting a bit worried about you on Sunday mate....it almost sounded like your where thinking about changing sides..... <_<

It's very hard to compair the two! The only likeness, is they are both made in Japan!! :)

Nothing stamps authority and damands respect like a lex though!! A few select styling mods and driving through a town centre on Friday night....heads always turn!!

Lex everytime!!! :backofnet:
UKPulse
Hmmm, ok so maybe I was a little unfair to the Civic Type-R... but then I'm biased :P Still, having previously had cars like the Renault 5GT Turbo & Nissan 200SX, the Lex is totally different & it is difficult to compare it (at least unmod'ed) with out & out performance cars.

Agreed, with cars like the Accord Type-R you get nearer the best of both worlds. I actually considered the Accord Type-R before buying my first Lex, but I was looking to buy new and have it 'sanitized' by the dealer (i.e. remove badging, spoilers etc) to make it a wolf in sheeps clothing. Strangely, they weren't interested so they didn't get my business :(
UltraViolet
Very odd indeed since the spoiler is a deleate option!

Some dealers really let the side down!
bloofire
Oojoni - get a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI - you know it makes sense.

A practical 4 door saloon with just enough power - 280 brake, and 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. You'll be laughing.

Actually might have to be an Evo IV or V for £12,500.

You will be - :D
UKPulse
....but styling thatlooks like you've collided with the local Halfords shop window? LOL... :P ;)
bloofire
Funny! :duh:

I guess you either love it or hate it.

But i always wanted my own batmobile! :D

Also you get 4WD, Active Yaw control, 4 wheel steering + a very tuneable engine. I saw a VII this month with over 700 brake!!!

Slight drawback is the very scary Group 20 insurance and being lucky to get 20mpg!!

Here's dreaming.... oh well i love my lex, just want more power. methinks a small engined transplant......... :D
UKPulse
...or maybe the Nissan Skyline GTR-33 "Kombat" - just shy of 1,000bhp :o I guess fuel consumption & insurance costs would be something to write home about :yahoo: Don't thing that's gonna fit in the engine bay of my IS tho... :(
roscopip
:zee: I'd just like to say that after owning a Soarer and an IS200 and now being the proud owner of a civic type-r, i'd have the honda over the other two anyday, ok I agree they look a bit weird and there very bumpy but whn that RPM needle hit 5900 ad that VTEC kicks in theres nothing that can touch it for engine sound and fun for the money, I love lexus's for different reasons to the love i have for the honda, they a beautiful especially the IS but if you like driving, real driving it has to be the civic it's an animal and the best thing about it is that its as fast as all its rivals for pace and is quicker around a track, without the use of a turbo or supercharger, the look of anger on the face of the focus RS driver the other day when he found that his 22 grand turbocharged ford couldn't get away from my 16 grand motobike sounding jap looking mpv/hatch was funny to say the least. An I have now found theres more to come and am currently making plans to have a filter and Apexi Vtec controller fitted which will easily see sub six seconds 0-60 and around 230-240bhp. For the Fun = HONDA. For the Looks and Comfort = Lexus. Its all up to what your looking for in a car.

I'm with you on that one - no need for an expensive stereo in the proper Honda VTEC's - the sound of that VTEC rump roar it's way through the rev range and gears is music to my ears.

Is it possible to be in love with an engine? or am I a geek :geek:
UKPulse
You're allowed to love an engine (why the R1 engine in my Fazer is a sexy little number), but you're not allowed to admit it in public! :P

A little snippet of info for any that are interested.

We entered a modifed type R into the Modified Car of the Year competition yesterday - hosted by Car & Car Conversions magazine.

The car did exceptionally (and surprisingly) well against some formidable opposition including a £100k EVO 7 and an Audi S6 twin turbo with nitrous.

Our car only had exhaust, filter, cam kit, FCON S and flywheel.

I'm a happy bunny today :D

Was that stanwans car?

Nowt wrong with that - there's plenty of us out here.
