Hi, Thanks for the excellent post on your LPG instal. I am about to buy either a Lexus LX470 or LS430 (can't quite decide which one). & I will want to fit an LPG system to it. I have heard that the "newest" best system is a LIQUID- INJECTION system, as made by JTG & prob a few other Co's. The new LIQUID-INJECTION (sequential) Lpg systems are supposed to be even better than Vapor-Inj, & use about 10% Lpg fuel too. Did you go with the Prins Vapor-Inj because you are more familiar with installing these or could get it at a better price ? Otherwise what Brand & model Lpg system would you reccommend for the LS430 / LX470 ? (http://centralgaragecarcroft.co.uk website gives details on many Lpg brands & models too.). Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi

Sorry I missed this post.

I haven't seen any liquid injection systems as yet apart from the spectacular failure that Ford had with trying one as a factory fit option. The theory is sound but I would not use one yet as they are young to the market place and the owners will be doing the research for the builders.....

I'd use the vapour injection untill they have the liquid one sorted properly and it has been used and tested by others.

I recomend the Prins system, I believe it is the best but it is not cheap, there again you pay for what you get. Whatever you decide ensure that it is fitted and adjusted properly and that the engine is not running rich on LPG, if you have access to one, use an OBD11 reader and check the fuel trims before and after installation, they should be very similar.

Good Luck

Pete

Thanks Pete. I almost bought a Lexus LX470, 2000 model, but pulled out of buying it because Lexus told me that the fuel-inj system is "group" injected (2 groups of 4 injectors), so that a Seq-Gas-Inj LPG system will therefore not work as Sequential, as it will just follow the orig ECU; therefore making t work like an ordinary venturi-lpg system. The lpg system supplier said that this would increase the risk of backfire; therefore major engine damage. However some keen installers said to go with a venturi lpg system, which is cheaper too. With a lot of comflicting info from the local kit suppliers, lexus & local lpg installers about fitting a seq/venturi lpg system to a non-seq efi car (Lexus LX470) I have almost given up on the idea & will probably buy an LS430 instead as it has a true seq efi system. I welcome any feedback you may have on the risk of (backfire, less refined lpg operation etc) fitting an lpg system to a non-sequential efi car. Also is there a way of avoiding cutting a whole in the rear fender of the LS430 for the LPG filler pipe; I don't think I can do it (cutting the whole there;LOL) ? Thanks again Andrew, Melbourne Australia.

Presumably you could put the filler INSIDE the boot somehow? Unless it has to vent to the exterior?

Andrew

My mate has a Toyota Amazon 1998 (LX470 where you are)

He bought it with 100,000 miles on the clock and the cheapest, nastiest looking single point LPG system I have seen, gas pipes were touching the exhaust manifold, wiring was twisted and taped together.... we spent a morning sorting it out as best we could and said we would upgrade/change bits as they were needed...... well that was 3 years ago, he's done about another 80,000 in it and it hasn't missed a beat, you can tell it is on LPG as the performance is a little bit flat but not that bad and after all its not a sports car....

We were going to rip it all off and stick a VSI system on it at the first sign of trouble but there hasn't been any, it has never backfired at all.

Mind you we did spend a while tuning the kit to give the correct emissions

So, I wouldn’t have it on my LS430 just because I want the best but it goes to show if you set it up right just about anything will do....

Over here you have to have an external LPG filler now, you used to be able to have the filler in the boot but that’s been outlawed, it may be different where you are, other options are a bracket off a tow bar or a bracket under the bumper....

Or if you want me to cut the hole, just forward a plane ticket and I'll even fit the rest of the system for you......???? whistling.gif

Good Luck

Stick one on the barby for me!

Sorry Chris we posted at the same time.... great shame they banned it a while ago. As you surmised the filler has to vent to the outside, they are sealed on the inside, it's because LPG is heavier than air, it tends to fill up the bottom of the car and go bang.....

They take the fun out of everything nowadays......

Hi,

Anyone interested in trying to get a group buy going with an installer, as i am currently shopping around for quotes on a system for my ls 400, I would prefer a induction system on my car, as I have had one on my previous car with no problems also a good friend of mine has run an induction system on his LS400 for the last 7 years & 120,000 miles, with no problems the car has done 215,000 now & is still sweet.

I have been quoted £1450 + vat for a BRC seqential system,

I will be looking elsewhere for a quote on a induction system as that company does'nt want to install one, I will contact a firm in Barking that has a ls400 of their own converted

If there is enough intrest ( say a block of 5 conversions ) im sure we could all get a really good deal.

anyone intrested contact me and I will see what quotes we get.

Hope this is of intrest thanks Mark

There are two Liquid Propane Injection systems on the market: ICOM and Vialle. It is w/o vaporiser and no (e.g. filter) service is needed. I've the Vialle installed on the LS430. Seems to be better as the Prins, cool(er) stuff. It is linked to the Lexus electronic and working perfectly.
