I have had my 220d in for an oild seal fix and that involved disconnecting the battery for 8 hours which reset all the electronics back to default settings, including the ECU. There was an istant recovery in the MPG bck to the levels of a new 220d. As I mentioned on another post the Service Manager at Bristol mentioned that the car has a self learning ECU that works out how I drive and then sets the performance/consumption to that. Hence the gradual degredation of MPG and why people have such differening experiences of MPG. Seems that it is nothing to do with the 5th Injector but the way you drive it. He commented that a number of people who had the oil seal done saw an improvement in MPG when they got the car back.
The solution we agreed was that when I suffer bad MPG I get the ECU reset to the default setting and start teaching the car how to drive again!
The mpg went from 38.7 to 44 in an instant and I can now cruise at 80 in 6th and see the Current MPG hover round the 60mpg mark. So, get the battery disconnected for a few hours and see the mpg come back. You have to reset all the radio stations again but thats a small price to get the performamnce back!
