Full Version: How Long Should The Auxiliary Battery Take To Run Flat?

Hi,

I took the plunge and got a two year old Rx400 SE-L. I got it on Friday

afternoon from the dealership and drove it home (about 45 min drive). I

fiddled around with the navigation/bluetooth stuff when I got home for up

to 1 hour and all in all was pretty happy with it.

However..., come the following day I go to use it and the auxiliary battery is

flat and it won't start! censored.gif

Unbelievable.

I know the battery isn't that powerful but is that really enough to flatten a

normal serviceable battery? If so I'm either going to have to be very careful

what I do when the engine is off or use the "no quibble return policy"!

I still can't believe I needed the RAC on my first day of ownership!

i guess the battery isnt very good - as u say auxillary battery i assume u have the hybrid version? if so i hope you know u can not leave the car parked for more than about 10 days otherwise you cant start the car! look in the 400 forum and there is a long post about it.

Yes, its the Rx400h hybrid. I left it overnight after a half hour run and it did start this morning. Not sure I want to keep playing Russian Roulette with "will it - won't it start" everyday.

Yes, thanks I'd seen the posts on it flattening after 10 days or so, which I can probably live with. Can't say the same if it happens after a few days though. I'll have to see what it does. I'll be straight on the phone Monday morning to the dealership devil.gif

Is that true? Does that mean it doesn't have a normal battery as well? Seems bizarre, surely there should be an override that if the batteries are flat, it should just start the engine using a normal battery like a normal car............

To the OP, defintely sounds like there's something weird going on with your car, we've got a Prius (which isn't exactly the same I know) but the battery doesn't die by just sitting in it for an hour.............
