hi all,

i finally got my gs300 sport!

its a mk 1. my question is this:

it already has a harmon kardon 12 cd system in there (factory spec) which im happy with. i don't have any form of sat nav. is it possible to get the console upgraded by lexus, to the consoles the mk 2's have that have inbuilt sat nav? the tape deck looks so dated!!

Ryo
i thought about this myself, however to fit themk2 stereo also includes the A/c and heater controls if i remember rightly, plus i thought the audio in the mk1 was pioneer?
any whoo, i think it would be too much messing with the wiring loom to swap em across, even if it is possible, some of the other mk1 owners will be along soon , most probably putting me in my place

If I'm honest, it would be prohibitively expensive to get Lexus to upgrade, even the standard head unit you have is a couple of grand I think from Lexus (it is Pioneer). The Air con control unit is a seperate unit that is mounted on the same brackets as the head unit but doesn't need to be replaced.

You are better off going the after market route really. I have done this with a single DIN unit but you could go double DIN and get something with the sat nav stuff all built in. It would be much, much cheaper and I would imagine much more feature rich too.

Here is a link to my head unit replacement thread so that you can get the idea of what I was doing Clicky

I'm confused now. Mine says Lexus premium sound/dolby in car and 12 disc changer also says Lexus with other stuff in English and also in (presumably) Japanese.Lexus actually advertised it when I bought the car in 2002 as being Mark Levinson system. Did they vary between different years?

I guess the only way to tell is to take the head unit out and have a look mate. Mine says Lexus on the front, but Pioneer on the back.
